If you had to choose between these two for a classy, albeit, admittedly obsolete carry gun, which would it be?
A Smith & Wesson Model 36 2" .38 Special rated for +P or A Walther PPK, in .380ACP? No you can't pick a P365XXXL with reddot and 87-round mag. |

Smith.

No contest 36 for sure. I carried a 642 for years and I hate the hard trigger on the Walther.

HK USP 45,
Edit Read the rules. The wheel gun gets the vote. PPK is hot garbage and hurts my hands to shoot. |

False premise--the 36 isn't obsolete.

Of the 2. The PPK, unless the Smith is chrome plated.
Would a CZ-75 Pre B qualify as obsolete? It's kinda old. |

It’s… probably not as bad as you think it is.

I've carried a Colt Mustang 380 as a CCW, but not a small revolver. Voted for the 380 as the Devil I Know vs the Devil I Don't Know.

PPK.
I’ve never owned a DA revolver in my life and I do own a PPK/S, so the PPK makes infinitely more sense. |

PPK
Also a Beretta Jetfire. My mother gave both to me, she carried the Jetfire as her church gun. I usually carry the PPK, no malfunctions in either, she had some mods done to the PPK (feed ramp, I think). |

View Quote Easy answer for me-a gun I already had and sold. I just never shot it, an H&K P7M8 with Trijicon night sights in a nice Don Hume holster. Wish I could have justified keeping it but I just couldn’t see holding on to the gun when somoene else who might enjoy it more could have it and use it. I miss it. |

A strange game; the only winning move is not to play.

Well, I have two 2" S&W Model 36's sitting in the safe, along with a 3" 36-1 and 13 other J-frames, so I'll go with the 36.

I've carried a hard chrome P7M8 in a rig of black elephant with alligator trim.
Have also carried a Detonics MkVI in plain leather. Wouldn't trade either for my P365XL in kydex. |

Snubby though I don’t believe it to be obsolete.

The proper caliber for a PPK was .32ACP, not .380ACP
.32ACP was the original and optimal caliber. It's a joy to shoot mine in that caliber, a torture to shoot it in .380 (I've had 10) My '65 collectible PPK in .380ACP (sold). I still have my .32ACP PPK, always from '65 '65 PPK with '68 watch by Solo__, on Flickr |

View Quote Now, if I don't have to CARRY it, and I can pick an early era PPK in great condition? I'd rather have that because it really is a classy little gun. I just wouldn't consider it a primary choice for carry. I don't wear fitted tuxedos regularly, I can conceal something with a bit more oomph and reliability. |
