The support team on the roof of the stadium in LA for the superbowl had those using them. You’d be surprised how far you can see a focused light like that from the air.
I used to fly into Moline at night and there was a red beacon flashing on a obstacle that wasn’t marked on the charts. I kept asking the controllers what was there. They said there was nothing they knew of. I finally looked on a satellite map. It is the flashing red light at a 4 way stop at a he top of a small hill south of the airport. I could see it 20-30 miles away. |
