On sale for $0.88 .

Add some seasonings to pump up the flavor, throw some frozen breadsticks in the oven and serve over spaghetti and you have four meals for like $3.

$4.99 rotisserie chicken at Costco.

Breadsticks and pasta?  Trash carbs.

I'd also brown a pound of very lean ground beef or venison and mix it with the sauce.  Easy weeknight dinner.

I really like the Hunts sauces. Always my favorite.
However, my wife and I have noticed the past 2 years, it's now watery.

No doubt they have cheapened it up.

Best value right here.
Unfortunately it was half this price a year or so ago, but is still an excellent price for the quantity of meat.

28oz can of whole tomatoes (I'll splurge for san marzano)

Couple cloves of garlic

Bit of olive oil

Couple fresh leaves of basil

And a pinch of red pepper flakes.

Better than anything from a can and not expensive.

Recently my local grocer had twin packs of pork butts $.99/lb. I haven’t priced them lately, but every so often they have 10 lb bags of chicken leg quarters for ~$.50/lb. Gotta shop the sales, fill your freezer, then eat what's in there.

Mush it all up with a Buck 110 and eat it with a plastic spoon from 7-11.

Meijer has these for $8.99, good nutrition, no junk, filling, made in Germany.  I heat a couple and wrap each one in a low carb tortilla with some hot sauce for lunch.  Homemade bean burritos are also a good value.

HEB brand 62¢ box of sugar free raspberry jello. Makes a pint of joy with no sugar, no nutrients, few calories, and mostly Red2 dye to leave a big red stain all down your shirt where it rolled off your spoon.   Don't forget to put your HEB $1.07 container of fat-free whip cream on every bite.

I know, learned that when they blew out their seasoned pistachios.

I would have bought more because they were great.

But, I'm stocked up on bacon for BLT's for a long time.

Read a lot of books about The Great Depression but never heard of Hoover Stew.   Looked it up.  Casseroles were very popular too.

I buy those bags all the time. I think they're the layers that don't kick out enough eggs anymore. The bones inside seem to be very large.

Yep - there are some excellent canned San Marzanos out there. ATK even did an episode where they found that they made better sauce than many fresh varieties. I've made a few good sauces with them myself.

Cento was the top brand, but there were several they declared to be good.

Yep - I get one a couple times a month. It's enough for 2 meals- one with sides and then sandwiches for lunch the next day.

Save a couple of carcasses to make stock and then have a soup. It's a great value and saves me some time.

ETA: I am not the sort of heathen that will sit there and eat it in the store with my hands.
