I grew up in the post Civil Rights Act America, in the 70s, in a city that was a center of Civil Rights and black empowerment. While there were the occasional stereotypical "angry black" folks, the vast majority of black people in the 70s were civil, respectable, respectful, and wanted nothing more than to be treated as equals when they BEHAVED AS EQUALS. They wanted to be a rightful, full part of modern, law abiding, organized society. The black area of the city was only slightly more depressed and dangerous than the white area at that point in time.
