@Fredman and others.
Here is a google interactive app. It's free No download needed. when you start over on the left side is a little yellow man. Just under him you'll see a clock. Click it and it sets the map in time zones. Now zoom in onto the location you will be watching from. Put the cross hair on that spot and click it. A box will pop up giving you the eclipse times, duration of total. height of the sun above the horizon etc. It is a good tool to prepare yourself on what to expect. Here is the map. Have fun For some reason it shows my info. So don't click the clock. Just move the cross to your location and click to get your info. |

Here is another one for you . It calculates your shutter speed for given times in the eclipse based on you ISO and F#, etc. The hard part is when you enter the corona times. Use the inner corona shutter speed and Bracket -2 to +2 . and if your camera is capable -4 to +4. Doing this your will only be using 2 shutter speed settings. The start, the middle corona and the end which would be the same as you started with. You can can catch a lot of the corona phases, The rings, the beads and the main corona.
You need to input Alitude of the sun ( from the other map) your filter type,, ISO, F-stop. here is the calculator. have fun |

My parents live about 30mi from the dead center track, so I'm taking the family to their house to see it. Taking the d750 as well. I'm thinking about getting a solar filter to get some partial eclipse shots and then removing it for the total eclipse. Looking at a Nisi Solar Pro Nano UV/IR for $100.

Unfortunately, getting there is considered a "scenic route" which is Arkansas for narrow and winding road. Making even 55mph on those roads can be difficult. And remote. Can get there either by coming in off US65 at Leslie, or from the east US67 (Searcy, Cabot, Newport, Batesville, etc.). Take your time, enjoy the views... it's a surreal beauty in those hills. I think you'll enjoy Mountain View and want to extend your stay. I know I would. I nearly bought a house there, but bought in Leslie instead (sold and moved on partly for health reasons. Both Mountain View and Lesley have decent bargains in real estate. |

Almost ready.
Got my mount working really well. Here is the setup.  unIf you look close at the sun in the camera's monitor you can see a thin red lined box on the left side.. That was dead center in the sun two hours ago. So the tracker is doing a very good job.  I'm shooting from inside the house through the trees in the front yard. Also it was partly cloudy today so the sun was going in and out. EBR |

Looking forward to some neat pics from alla y'all in, or headed for, full totality. I was taking pics in '17... my 'lessons learned' from that were to make a few dry runs before the actual event so you know you've got everything you need (filters and whatnot) and it's where you expect it to be, and try to take a minute to step away from the gear and just appreciate the moment. It would be easy to get so wrapped up in the tech that while, yeah, you've got some really cool pictures of it, you didn't really get to experience an eclipse yourself.

Here’s my go-to EXIF using TO filters.
 For totality you’re on your own. Oh, I also recommend shooting from a tripod with a remote shutter, turning off VR, mirror up shooting, and electronic front curtain. Trigger the mirror up with your remote, give it a few moments to settle, then fire the shutter with another remote press. The goal is to remove as much vibration as possible from your tripod setup. |

I'm off to a real shaky start for the eclipse thing. Didn't focus stack. More than half the time, the moon was out of focus, and didn't think to try to get Saturn in focus (it's not in this frame, but it is in others, and I think it's something I could have gotten sharper, as it was higher above the smoke haze)
 ...oh, well. Time to hop in the truck and take this show on the road. Hopefully, with better results.

I have a place to camp and a great foreground object. Anyone can have a majestic oak tree or something. But, a Super Deluxe seems different.
24mm does get the sun in the frame, 20mm has more margin, though. I'll probably do an infinity focus for totality, and then a foreground focus afterwards, and maybe in the late afternoon or evening. My primary camera will host an 80-400, within arms reach of the wide angle setup. I doubt the goats can work the B-camera, so I'll set some exposures tonight, and just go with that.

Here's a couple of quick test shots I did with my Canon EOS R6 mkII and the RF 100-500 that I rented for the eclipse. Using the Thousand Oaks Optical solar filter with a homemade mount.
Definitely have to crop some., even at 500mm. I should have tried to get an extender for my cameras. Will be using my R7 with my RF 70-200 f4, and the R6mkII with the RF 100-500.

I tested everything this afternoon.
I'm going with 24mm at 5-minute intervals, 500 for manual stills, and intend to shoot at 5-minute intervals, and then time lapse video at either 5 or 10 second intervals. Took the day off
Was gonna just enjoy the view, but right before, I decided to tape some eclipse glasses to my Tamron 300 and start shooting. Nikon D3300 no tripod goofing off with family was a lot of fun.  Attached File

Took a frame every 6 minutes, so this is just a start.
And the fooking clouds rolled in right before our maximum coverage, and that screwed that up. I did manage to get some more post shots; so not all as lost. 30 minutes after "first contact". Photos from A-camera got screwed up one photo into totality - the horses got spooked, I got thrown for a loop, and screwed up the checklist.
I know I got a cool photo of totality with B-camera, but it now looks like I lost all of those photos. Looks like something happened with the memory card. Still trying to finish out the sequence, hoping those photos can be recovered, or are just in some other folder, or something. |

Anyone have lightroom tips on processing these? I just shot with a 200mm lens that had a shade 14 welding glass hung off the front. I did get some good ones, but after playing with a couple of them a bit, I'm wondering if that's the most I'm going to get out of a 6DII and the 70-200 F2.8 or if there's more to be had.
