BRIGHTON, Utah — A Brighton resident has been charged with multiple counts after he was caught on video last month threatening a snowboarder who had come near his property with a shotgun. Keith Robert Stebbings was charged with one count of aggravated assault and another for threat of violence. A group of friends had been renting a cabin near Stebbings' home on South Old Prospect Avenue in Little Cottonwood Canyon, when one, Loren Robinson, went out on Feb. 26 to snowboard. While Robinson was filming his run, Stebbings is seen standing in his path while holding a shotgun. As Robinson gets closer, the homeowner can be heard saying, "Private property, you (expletive)." During the confrontation, Stebbings, 67, can be seen pushing Robinson numerous times, while also pointing the shotgun at the snowboarder and saying "if you do it again there will be holes in you.” Robinson admitted to mistakenly crossing over into Stebbings' property, but a later investigation found that there was no private property signage at the residence. The area near Old Prospect Avenue, which is city-owned, is used by skiers and snowboarders who backcountry ski, but have to go through some private drives to get there. Following the incident, Brighton Mayor Dan Knopp said the city was working with police to deescalate the tension between Stebbings and other snowboarders and skiers. |

Shit happens.
One minute you’re riding on designated trails on state land, then you see a trail and take it and next thing you know you’re in someone’s back yard. Never see a no trespassing sign, no idea where you are until you’re looking at someone’s swingset. Whoops! You turn around and go back. People who willingly trespass are one thing. Making a wrong turn and mistakenly ending up where you shouldn’t be is another. No clue what happened in this case, but it seemed like an over the top over reaction to me. |

Dude obviously never read “How To Win Friends and Influence People”.

The guy was obviously not an Arfcommer since he used a shotgun instead of a carbine.

Brighton isnt marked that well. I have accidentally hiked into peoples backyards there in the summer just cause i missed the turn and there is some private access trail they use...

Over 500 inches of snow per year on average in those parts of Wasatch mountains.
Good luck with a fence or posting signs, lol. Spent many seasons hiking, riding, and skiing the Cottonwood canyons w/ plenty of time out of bounds. Dude w/ shotgun sounds like an angry prick that needs help before he hurts or kills someone. |

Hicks and their land. Fuckers are sensitive
I remember as a young kid riding my dirt bike across a field here in the Alabama boonies and some redneck was firing his shotgun in the air at a 45 degree angle over my head yelling at me. Scared the shit out of me. |
