Chinchilla, co-worker PCS'ed to the mainland and gave it to my kids for free, doesnt bite and likes to be handled but shits everywhere.  Everytime they let it out I have to vacuum pellets on the carpet.

Mix of what? I can only assume since you did not mention any other breed, he is a mix of two border collies.

His mom was a pure bread border collie, nobody knows what the other half is.  My guess would be that there's some GSD and some lab.

My Iris.
Like an angel in flight.

I haven't seen many photos of a Cockatoo in flight. Those wings do remind me of an angel. That is a gorgeous bird!

Question - Is that the natural length of the secondary wing feathers? Or was she clipped?

She was clipped but they've mostly molted out and replaced the cut ones.
All of the secondaries and tuxedos were not cut.
I have better photos of the wings extended in flight of Tikki.(also a Goffins)

Here is a video of Iris flying, slow motion at the end.

Do the birds easily avoid running ceiling fans?
Link Posted: 12/19/2008 6:59:42 AM EDT
[Last Edit: Cockatoo] [#15]
If they're aware of them, they'll avoid them.
I just don't take chances, I leave them off when the birds are out.

My cousins in Dallas had a crazy bird that would ride around on their ceiling fan. Funny as hell. Of course it was an old slow moving fan.

Cockatoo - Thanks for the photos and video. It's hard to catch them in flight. My cameras are older film jobs with slow shutter speeds and manual lenses. I need to break loose with the money for a fast auto-focus digital.

I saw that your Iris is 29 years old. Not bad for an old girl. How long do cockatoos usually live for? I believe the best I can hope for is 20 for my cockatiel. It is obvious that you take good care of your birds. May they live long and prosper.

Barks at strangers, however won't hurt anything....less you have wings and cackle as you fly up :)

And our attack cat....She has mastered the art of deception. She may look like she is sleeping, but in reality she is plotting her next move
