I've used both. Monos are better. You can see in both worlds.

Ok to be that guy
How did using night vision help you find a lost dog better than a flash light with the brightness of the sun?
Seems like thermal may have been better.
I still plan on getting some NVG's though

I consider night vision to be one of the greatest force multipliers that a person can own. In a dark environment, the person who has it is going to kill the person who doesn't. It's that simple.

This is especially true of thermal.

Went on a walk last night on a trail by my house with my new PVS14. Overcast night, heavy overhead canopy on the trail, so it was very dark. It's absolutely amazing how well the 14's work. I had a M1 Illuminator on my helmet, but didn't need it (even though it sure lit that trail up when on). Can't believe I waited so long to get some NODs. Money well spent

What tube does it have in there? You can find pvs-14 kits for around $650 and figure another 50~75 to have it purged.

Had a Gen 2 goggles unit just over Xmas.  Sold it for a small profit because I want a mono instead.  Wanting a Gen 3 but can't seem to get the $$$ scrounged up.  It's on the list for 2015, though.

Give Adams Industries a call, that tube won't be a direct drop in to a pvs-14 housing but adams might make something that will work for you.

A little late to that party. NV porn has been around for some time. Thermal I'm sure has been used too.

That is funny ! I used a combination of night vision and thermal to find my Moms very smart cat who takes advantage of them being elderly and sneaks out the front door when they open it. I get the phone call at whatever dark hour to come and catch the cat. My life is exciting like that.

ETA: Thankfully it is a overweight fat cat and only runs 10 yards before collapsing from exhaustion.

I don't own any because I live in an urban area with loads of lighting and no place to really use it.  I don't own land to be able to hunt on, at least not in a state that permits me to also own the weapons I want (have land in ny).

I used to have a tasco monocular I think.  Was a neat toy, but I took it outside one night and accidentally aimed it at the headlights of a passing car.  Stopped working and hasn't worked since.  Apparently I burned it out?  I can't imagine spending serious coin on a nice one and the same thing happening again.

Same with thermal,  $6500 or something for a cool toy that I really can't use.

Seriously? God forbid someone cut kevlar, it just comes off the factory in it's natural form like a helmet or in the shape of a vest. It's this magical material that as soon as it gets bumped it just quits working. Multiple rounds hitting it? Nah bro it's only good for one, won't work again. THIS VOODOO IS TOO MUCH FOR ME.

It does come out of the mold in it's natural form. It's strips of kevlar layered in resin, and cutting it will make it not work so good.
If you don't care about stopping bullets you should just buy a bump helmet.

How much of it is compromised when you cut it?  Most of the guys I know that have cut one have done it for weight savings.  Those fuckers are heavy.  It's nice to drop a little weight and still have some protection.  People should also realize what they are being protected against.  This isn't all that great of protection.  It's better than a bike helmet, but not by much.

I have friends who were saved by their ACH when hit in the head with PK and AK rounds.

Were they "angled hits"?  I know you get some protection from rifle strikes, but my understanding is that straight on shots will punch through.

Glad they had them on and survived the hits.  Those helmets would have a spot on the wall if they were mine.  That would make a pretty awesome wallhanger.
