I own a Shield 9, a XDS 45 and a Glock 32.  The Shield gets 98% of duty and off duty carry time.  It is my favorite of the three by far.

Same boat. I'll be going with the G26.

A Gen 4 26 would be my vote.  Small but easy to shoot and decent capacity.  Can also use Glock 19 or 17 mags for reloads.  I carry a G19 most of the time but my 26 gets a lot of use during the heat of summer when I wear t-shirts more often.

Glock 19. End of discussion.

I used to have a XD9 and a XD9sc, both sucked to carry.

Just looked up the specs for the p224...that seems a pretty heavy gun for its size.  According the websites of the brands, my CZ 75 compact (all steel) is only 3 ounces heaver than it.  How is that the case?  Those things are tiny and have an alloy frame.

All "just go buy gun X" levity aside:

Set up an IDPA target at 7 yards.  Put on your carry gear and preferred concealment garment.  Draw and fire 3 shots, score it like an IDPA.  Repeat x5, and add up the times.

Do that with all three guns, the lowest total time is probably the gun you should carry.

Forgot about that too. A friend has one and really likes it. Also Ruger LC9s.

I've had all three.  I like the Shield because of the weight, profile and the fact that I can shoot it all day when practicing (unlike the godawful PF-9).

Both.

If you can only afford one right now, then Glock 19 because Glock 19.

Toss up between the smoothbore Shield and the G19.

For something with more rounds a S&W M&P 9mm compact.
My first choice is the S&W but if I can't conceal it I go with the SIG.

I carry a Glock 19.  The gun is great but it is a bear to conceal.   My buddy has a Shield 9mm in a RM paddle holster and this seems much easier to carry.  The shield is very thin.  I have shot it and it is accurate and very comfortable to shoot.

All depends on how you plan to carry it.  The Shield is going to give you the most flexibility in choices for carry; but also has the least magazine capacity.  None of those are bad choices though.

Double stacks are too fat to wear comfortably IWB for me.  I sold my M&Pc and got an LC9s, I love it! I compared a shield and an lc9s and the lc9s has a much better trigger than the shield.  They're both slim enough to be very comfortable.

I'm in he same boat, going with the Shield...just more comfortable for me to carry. i shoot the Glock better at farther distances, but for their intended purpose, the Shield gets it done for me.

In my opinion, it does not get much better than a glock 26, when you factor in size, capacity, and reliability.

I've had a pet theory that it isn't the double-stack magazine (or at least not entirely the magazine) but the barrel lockup.  I carry a Hi-Power IWB and it is more comfortable to carry than the Glock 26, which sticks out like a little tumor IWB.  I think this has more to do with the modern technique of a single locking lug square cut across the top to reduce machining costs - which leads to square, blocky slides to lockup on that cut vs. the old school method of 2 or 3 machined lugs into the barrel hood and a slimmer, extremely radiused slide.

I carry a 19, considering a 26 for summer/warmer weather.
