What is your 9mm daily carry load and what is your 9mm woods load?
I've got a bunch of hornady critical defense and critical duty, 115, 124 and 135gr I think. Considering switching everything to 147gr HST.

I use 9mm Winchester Defend 147gr. For both road and woods. I chose that due to ease of availability. Performed well on Shooting the Bull's gel test. I would have went with the popular HST's, but damn hard to find when I started using primarily the 9mm as CCW.

I just bought 1000 rounds of 147 grain HSTs, so I guess that for a while.

230 gr JHPs @ 800+ fps. My 9sillymeter carry load is whatever cheap crap I can find to run thru my range toy, which is what all sensible people agree is the most that 9mm can ever hope to be.
Buffalo bore JHP 124g @ 1350 fps...
(but my 9mm bullets are spit out of .38 super cases ) |
My edc is either a G19 or G34 loaded with 147hst +p
My woods carry is either my G20 or G40, loaded with BB hardcast |
124gr HST because it's better than 147gr
Either 13 in pistol and and extra 12rd mag Or 20 in pistol w/ 19 in spare mag |
My 9mm carry load is a 147gr HST
My 9mm woods load is a 10mm 180gro Underwood XTP load |
Is there supposed to be a difference?
147 HST, all day err day |

Right now 147gr Golden Saber Bonded. Before those Ranger 127 gr +p+ after the gs I have some 147gr HST.
I'm not too fussy on what ammo I'm carrying. Reliable and accurate are my two qualifiers. I'd rather have over penetration than under. If I'm in the woods around here I don't change anything. Nothing here a 9 won't work for. Phil Shoemaker stopped a brown bear last summer with a 9 and 147gr hard cast from Buffalo Bore. |
Cor-Bon DPX 115gr.
I live in the woods. Around here, like most places, the two legged predators are the worst to be concerned with. The odd angry critter is honest, and doesn't take too much convincing that ya want to be left alone. |
SD 147gr HST
If I'm carrying a pistol for defense in the woods I'll add 1mm to the diameter. |
124 grain hardball. Good enough for grunts, good enough for me.
124 gr Gold Dot LE for now. I am considering picking up a few boxes of HST 147.
147gr HST's for carry, if I'm out in the pasture I have a carbine or long gun with me.
Winchester Ranger 147 BONDED JHP.
woodsload...not a 9mm. A .44 mag with 240 grain JHP. |
147 HST
Winchester White Box 230 grain .45 ACP JHP is my woods carry. |
Since my 9mm carry load is the best possible why would a 9mm "woods" load be different? If you're in bear territory buy a bigger gun.
