My 10 year old Wilson CQB with 35k rounds through it would disagree, but I have never used it to shoot a bear.
1911's work fine if you maintain them and don't limp wrist them like a pussy.
I love these discussions. "It's a 100 year old design so it has to be good"

Possibly the Hi-Point. Depends on the quality of workmanship that went into the custom 1911. Money doesn't always buy you the best.
rephrase the question.
On a table before you is a 2K custom 1911 and a hi point. You have to choose one to defend your life. No test fires allowed. what do you grab? I grab the hi point. |
Give me the $2,000 and I will see to it you get the most reliable 45.
I get to keep the change though .... OK? ;) |
There is a whole lot of slack jawed faggotry going on in this thread...

View Quote Hi Point is a blow-back gun and I've never shot one. 1911 I have thousands of rounds fired through. I'd grab the one that I was most familiar with. |

Maybe I just got lucky I guess! |

Are Hi Points cheap large hunks of zinc...yes they are.
Do Hi Points work....yes they do. |

The hipoint will keep going and going and going...
even after you hammer a bolt into the barrel and then shoot it out. |

The meme of Hi-Point reliability is BS; they're unreliable, blowback operated, pot metal crap with triggers from hell. |

If I had $2k I was willing to spend on a 45ACP firearm, I'd get a goddamn Kriss Vector SBR. Straight up.

It cost about $900 less than your poll 1911 but it is a thing of beauty and has always been very reliable. Very reliable and accurate for a $200 weapon. I had a friend (yes, still a friend) who had a highpoint .45. We all laughed at him, but we laughed less and less the more he shot his $150 pistol without malfunction. He has over 500 rounds through it, with no jams. Will i go out and buy one? No, give me a plain jane Springfield instead or a glock. Will i laugh at anyone who owns a highpoint and practices with it? No. When kept in the context of what they are, they are adequate if that is all you can bear to part with. |

Custom 1911s always have the tolerances tightened up. The tolerances are loose in a GI gun for a reason.
There is no second place in combat. If you jam on a range you raise your hand and depending on the discipline you fire again. |

I had a Colt 1991 and a Norinco 1911...still got the Norinco...

The main reason I got a pistol/carbine package deal with extra mags from a lgs here. Outstanding deal money wise and they share mags too. |

I had a hipoint carbine in 40 S&W. It stovepiped alot, have no experience with their handguns though.

Have any of you guys ever tried to shoot a Hi-Point .45 ???? More than a few rounds ?? |

I have a 1944 1911a1 that is worth near 2k. It is very reliable. Does this count OP.
I would trust this gun over any other i have owned. |

Those of you who would select the Hi-Point with which to defend your lives over the 1911............please as step forward to accept your awards when Darwin calls your names.

I have a Dan Wesson Valor, Les Baer UTC, and Ed Brown Special Forces all have fired 700+ rounds each without fail; I pick any of them over Hi-Point.
