Why? other than killing trees?

no crime / no report with limited exceptions like car crashes, missing persons, mentals/deaths.

certainly no reason to write a report for the majority of the stupid non criminal stuff people call the police about.

See. I still say the NFA violates the ADA as SBRs are required to compensate for a midget's required shorter OAL and LOP. Discrimination I tell you.

So like an electronic blotter?
We used to have certain calls like noised complaints that could be closed without a  report
Then the college students and their parties ruined it because there was no record of who was spoken to at locations where noise complaints were investigated.
Now everything requires a  full written report
Hours and hours of report writing and data entry

We write reports for any call we go on

Entry into daily log of who you contacted and the results of your actions at the call. Simple entry into data base.
A crime report is taken if there is criminal activity or action resulting in an arrest. Several other things like fire reports, missing property and such as well could generate a written report.

Simple stuff like, went to location and told so and so to shut down his loud music....no written report.

Used to use a paper log to document the patrol shift, broken up into 480 minutes. Log all events in number 2 pencil and document what was done. Mid 1980s shifted to the modern MDT system, and entered everything into the black box by typing on the tiny keyboard.
Either way, if it was a routine thing, no written report unless crime or follow up by detectives needed.
Used to be able to write a short memo, issue it a report number, to cover simple vandalisim or such. Now it is the regular report form, 5 pages of check off boxes and cover sheet to start :(

To document the complaint and the actions the officer took to resolve the complaint.

Our reports can be pretty detailed. Every involved party, every involved business, every address, every vehicle, every bit of stolen/ recovered property, every criminal charge., every associated document and photo  gets scanned in and attached. On and on, and if you miss a field it gets kicked back til you make the additions
It can be convenient if you're looking into involvements  a particular person  has had, numbers of calls  at a particular address, any warrants, Orders of protection, etc
