Are you high? Traditionally an escort carrier is a full fledged aircraft carrier. They are smaller but they are not small. That's like saying you expect a large capacity container ship/freighter to be the size of a fighter.

I agree.  The Idris can carry 2 (or is it 3) snubs, and it's a corvette.  That's smaller than a Destroyer in modern naval terms.

An escort carrier should be able to carry a dozen or two fighters imho.

I could see "escort carrier" being a non-frontline support ship: Designed to refuel, bio-break, rearm, etc, 5-10 single seat fighters on long-range expeditions, but very limited weaponry for self defense and no offensive weaponry.

Yea, that is what I am picturing. Something for long range expeditions (exploring, patrol, ambushes), that you grab when rolling heavy with your guild (like 35+).  I think the job of an escort-carrier would be more along the lines of repair/rearm to keep you in the field longer, which is why I do not think it will have a volumous bay for 20+ space craft. Maybe 5 fighters and a bomber or two.

Also I wonder if we will see hybrid battleship/carrier. Kind of like what we say in the interwar years converting obsolete battleships into partial flat tops.

The instancing system will keep numbers below EvE-tardedness. But, the devs will expand the number of players in instances as hardware (both player and server) allows. I bet we'll never see more than 100 people in an instance, they want WoW-sized guilds, not EvE alliance slugfests.

50 v 50 has been stated.

getting 50 people online and organized is a pretty tough challenge. So I do not think it will be much of an issue with the current setup.

For instance go play mount and blade warband with 50 people on each side and it is pure chaos on the battlefield.

You can't get Life-Time Insurance (LTI) anymore by yourself, but a veteran backer can gift an LTI ship to you if you find a willing one. The normal way it works is you gift a veteran/original backer the package you want (but cannot get LTI for), and in 24-48 hours (it takes 24 hours to process a melt-down) they gift back the equivalent LTI package.

Basically, LTI means you do not pay ship hull insurance, the exact cost of that is unknown but is expected to be significantly cheaper than EvE (where its 30% the purchase cost for 100% hull replacement for the next 90 days), cargo and fitting insurance are not included in LTI and will need to be purchased separately. There are a few other small goodies, more just tokens of appreciation, that later backers may not get vs earlier backers like a repair robot (free repairs for your ships at that one hangar), a laser pistol for boarding action, a unique space suit skin, etc.

I am looking for one as well. And I'm willing to slide over a small processing fee via paypal to contibute to an Arfcom Station. But I claim naming rights on the first system we discover.

The Bacon System or simply 'Murica'

If you look in "My Hangar", you can now see which level hangar has been assigned to your ships.  Here are mine:

Discount: Aurora, Aurora LX, 315p, 325a, 350r

Business: Freelancer, Hornet

Deluxe: Constellation

No hangar listed for: Starfarer, M50, Avenger, Gladiator

If you have different levels of hangars, you default to the highest received.

I believe they said already that most of the ships introduced during the livestream event won't be in the hanger module debut, so it makes sense that they wouldn't be listed. I still haven't seen concept sketches for the Retaliator or Gladiator, and the avenger, m50 and starfarer are still just test renders.

Random question here.... does anyone know what the actual game credits will be worth? I'm looking at the $275 admiral package that comes with the constellation and 10,000 credits and a bunch of other stuff since I havent actually purchased the game yet. Is it worth it to buy a package like this because of the credits, or should I buy a cheap package that comes with the game and a ship and then buy the constellation separately?
Link Posted: 8/12/2013 10:51:22 AM EDT

I don't think anyone really knows yet.  Plus the economy is going to be dynamic, so the credits:real money exchange rate will fluctuate.

Looking at the 300 series and trying to show a little discipline and get only one.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the 300P for exploration.

Also, does anyone know about ship range and refueling? I can't imagine them having a tanker without a need for one in game. Are we going to need to bring a tanker along for long runs if we have short range ships?

Tankers will be needed, for both exploration and combat.  You CAN run out of fuel during combat, which will require more fuel to keep going.

Tis going to be grand, looking at getting a good package before my LTI runs out myself

Truthfully, while I love the "87th" moniker, I am less of a fan of the "SOS" part.

ARF would be a better option I think.

IE

87th Advance Recon Force

Or something similar.
