To the question regarding his "sepcial unit" background, weren't these helocopters purchased from the Russians and used exclusively by the CIA for covert ops?

I know that's not definitive proof, but it leads you in a certain direction...

He is indirectly saying he was working for, or with the cia by saying the aircraft name.  The agency bought two of them.  People went to prison over it.  There are photos of them being used in this thread.

Yes. There are several BTDT trainers who still suggest doing it. Kyle Lamb says there should be at least one assembled cleaning rod immediately available per fireteam, IIRC. Kyle DeFoor has an article about how to do it on his website.

Not exactly. I've got buddies (regular AF Security Forces) who have done Pakistan deployments and flown on those MI-17's quite a bit. Nothing SOF related, they're just ferried around on them.

I was under the assumption that working in that sort of outfit precluded these lads from looking like Americans, ie: they carried AKs and old ChiCom chest rigs, wore civvy clothes, etc. etc.

He's carrying an XM177E1 which had cycling issues related to the gas port, barrel length, and how the moderator sat right against the FSB. Good policy to strap a cleaning rod to it but all those issues were solved with the XM177E2, which is why you don't see as many cleaning rods taped to those carbines.

Still good policy I suppose.

Maybe not a ,"military pack" but I carry my redwing all the time. I happen to know you can fit a broken down SAW, a broken down M4, ammo, radio, batteries, and a couple stripped MRES in a redwing with no issues.

It's true I don't need to know what "unit" Teti served in, and I don't really care.  But to claim you are prohibited from disclosing your involvement in such a unit, and then talk at great length about how you served in such a unit but are prohibited from even mentioning you served in that unit - sounds like BS, and just plain lame.  If you poke around there are less than flattering things posted about him from soldiers who served with him in 19th SFG(A).  Maybe they had a beef with him, maybe they're jealous of his success, who knows.  There's always three sides to every story.  And I get that he's forging a career in show business, and doing what he's gotta do to make it in that weird universe, so I'll just take that for what it's worth.  But I did enjoy watching him on his survival show, especially his reaction and face when he ate the tail from that dead beaver they found.

Big difference between flying around in contractor birds and OGA helicopters.

Just pointing out that the phrase "used exclusively by the CIA for covert ops" is no longer true when it comes to Americans and Mi-17s.

And the ones I dealt with weren't contractor birds, they were ANA. It was very brief.

I don’t know what Teti did as a private military contractor after his military service.  My comments were directed towards his response to that last question in the interview.  If he were really in such a “unit,” and is “bound by law not to reveal . . . the unit,” then it seems that he has violated, if not the letter, then at least the spirit of, any non-disclosure agreement by, a) stating that such a “unit” exists, b) that he was in such a “unit,” and c) that he is not allowed to reveal the “unit.” And if he was never in such a “unit,” then shame on him.  Either way, his statements did nothing to help his credibility, hence my lame BS comment. But beyond that, even though he was careful not to violate any secrecy laws and/or agreements, he had no problem violating two major rules of Fight Club. In that sense, perhaps he is a true badass.

But this brings up another point.  As Joe Q. Public, I understand I don’t need to know the details of CAG/DEVGRU/SAD, etc. As long as the proper oversight is in place and things are working the way they are supposed to, then those activities and organizations can remain on the dark side.  But if you’re going to leverage and attempt to monetize your clandestine experience in a public market, then all bets are off.  And I’m including guys who write books and make movies, shill guns and gear, appear in the media as subject matter experts, and form tactical training companies, to name a few.

Once you release your past into the public domain for a profit motive, and the public who ultimately contribute to the success of your endeavors question or challenge your past, you don’t get to say, “Sorry, you don’t have the need to know.” Fuck that shit.  Nobody gets to have their cake and eat it too, not even former secret squirrel action guys.  If it’s a secret, then STFU and don’t talk about it.  But if you’re looking to make a buck, and it’s none of my business how a guy decides to do that, then you have to deal with all the forces that swirl in a free market economy.

Yes, I have rambled on about stuff about which I know nothing.  But I’m like my dearest 15-year old niece who is currently learning how to drive on a Learner’s Permit and giving my sister a heart attack in the right seat every 15 minutes.  I’m trying to stay in my lane, but I just can’t.

So now, with my hands firmly at 10 and 2, more pics:

I went to college with and worked with Clark's daughter for a while. Still friends with her on Facebook. That girl could drink. Looks like her dad a bit.
