RIP.
Sounds like he didn't get tortured for years under Sadaam as was very possible. |

Quoted: RIP And a tip of the hat to those guys who had the respect to bury him. This. |

RIP
I thought about him often when we went in for Round 2. Guess the positive of this story is now we know he wasn't POW and tortured. |
|
Interesting. We got a very odd EDM message the other night when we were flying. I am positive it had to do with the recovery. At the time I thought it was very odd. we get a lot of mis-sent messages, and this was one of them.

That was way, way too long for a modern warrior to be left lying in the desert.
May he rest in peace and may his family now have the closure they need. |

RIP And a tip of the hat to those guys who had the respect to bury him. It appears that it was Bedouins that found him dead and according to Muslim faith, they bury their dead very quickly. The bedouins are nomadic, peaceful desert dwellers. I am sure they treated the Captain with respect. |
|
I was just thinking about him the other day. Good to have closure for the family and everyone else.
And how profoundly decent of the Bedouins to bury him. |
|
Quoted: Man I do remember this, I was 18 and had just made it through basic. Wish he had made it, but I am glad the family can finally put him to rest. It must be the hardest thing ever for a family to alwsys wonder what happened, if he was a POW/MIA, was he still alivw and being tortured. Yep... Of the ways to go, being KIA and respectfully buried by the locals (Burial is very, very important in Muslim culture, so it's easy to see why that would be their reaction) is a far better fate than being tortured to death by Saddam's goons... RIP, Sir... |
|
I am glad they found out what actually happened to him. Regarding his family, they may get a little peace, but it has been my personal experience that the idea of closure is overrated to a degree, as the pain still remains. The comfort is in the mental area, you no longer have the nagging questions.

|
At least now, his family has some closure. Rest In Peace Captain.
|
|
However small the solace may be, I'm sure the Captain's family is grateful for it. As am I.

Welcome home, Sir.
It made my heart ache thinking he was sitting in some rathole waiting for a rescue that never came... Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

If I were his family, I would have been tortured by the thought of my loved one being locked away in some forgotten dungeon for nearly two decades. I'm sure they'll sleep easier tonight, finally knowing what happened.

I am glad that the lingering questions have been answered for the family. I hope this brings them some relief.
Welcome home Capt. Speicher and thank you for your service. |

Just saw a breaking news that the remains of Capt. Scott Speicher have been identified. He was lost in the first Gulf war. IIRC, they believe he was ejected and was taken prisoner. Maybe there will be answers as to what really happened. God bless you Capt. Speicher. RIP. Lo there do I see my father. Lo there do I see my mother. Lo there do I see my brothers and my sisters. Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning. Lo they do call to me; They bid me take my place among them in the Halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever. |

Finally his family gets some closure. I can't imagine what they have gone through for the past 18 and half years, thinking he might be alive in some Iranian prison somewhere. Why not an Israeli prison? Aren't they just as likely to have been holding him as Iran would have been? |

I'm glad his family can finally have closure. It is also nice to know they he went without the years of potential suffering that many had imagined.
