If you are a redneck living in a trailer in Alabama, TP goes over. My work here is done. No it doesn't for health reasons. If the TP is against a surface (wall, vanity, etc.), then your hands are touching that surface every time you reach for a piece of TP. Every time they touch that surface they are depositing germs and contaminants, picking up germs and contaminants, or both getting and leaving contaminants. If the TP is away from a surface, then your hands do not touch the surface when reaching for the TP. Since they do not touch the surface, there is no contamination taking place. I'll take germ-free (relatively) and clean(er) hands, for the win. |

Way to go Dan Quayle. Actually Dan Quayle's spelling was correct. The media stepped on their dicks over that one. But everyone knows the Liberal media gets away with everything! Without anyone questioning them! Potato has an "e"? As in "potatoe"? I can't tell if you're trying to be funny. Hell, I'm always funny! Funny queer or funny haha? The waters deep |

No etymological precedent in the English language for "rediculous". Not like "grey/gray" where both have been used. Not even like different national/regional spellings like "criticize/criticise", such as may be used in Britain and Canada.
It is simply the result of a spelling error. Therefore, it is bad and all who use it should feel bad. |

What about Cancelled or Canceled? Both again are correct I prefer 2 Ls. |

There aren't two choices.
It is spelled "ridiculous", at least by people who know how to spell. |

The real question is: why could O.P. not consult a book, or online site to determine teh correct spelling?
It's because he/she has a lack of thinking skills. Not CRITICAL thinking skills, just thinking skills. I blame modern education. |

Once upon a time, I might have forgiven you for living in a super rural area, perhaps 50 miles from a public library. Further, it's entirely possible that your family might not have been able to afford to own a dictionary of their very own, given other priorities like feeding a family.
But uh...I know for a fact you own a web browser, and that it's capable of working on the Internet. So uh...what's up? |

Ridiculous is correct, but "re-goddamn-diculous" is acceptable usage as well.

Back in March, The Weekpointed out that Merriam-Webster had recently added a second usage of the word "literally" to mean the same as "virtually," but as hyperbole for emphasis. The Oxford English Dictionary has also included the informal definition, "used for emphasis while not being literally true," since 2011. But while traditionalists are complaining about the demise of English, many are quick to say that language evolves over time and dictionaries reflect those changes. "Our job is to describe the language people are using," OED senior editor Fiona McPherson said, according to the Daily Mail. "The only reason this sense is included is because people are using it the wrong way." |

This is not something you have an opinion on. There is a correct way to spell it, and only one correct way. The gray/grey thing is from British or American English so there is arguably an option.
