In September my son sold his very modified 2012 Mustang GT to some guy that did the very same thing.  Some people just don't know their limitations!!!

Town I grew up in had a neighboring town with a Indian casino and reservation.  Tribal members received a healthy cut from the casino.

One guy was locked up for a while but bought a brand new F350 and had it lifted by the dealership and added all kinds of crap, paid in cash.

After being released from prison he was picked up by a limo and taken to the dealership, enjoying multiple cold beverages during the ride.

The dealership would not give him the keys due to his intoxication so he called a tribal elder to come down and release the truck to him.

As soon as the elder had the keys the guy snatched them from him, jumped in the truck and tore off out of the lot, rolled the truck on its side and totaled a parked car with a lady in it.

Needless to say he was taken right back to jail.

Had this happen to a cousin of mine may he rest in peace. (No, this did not kill him. He later died of cancer.)

Hid dad gave him a brand new car for Christmas (my dad made me work to buy mine)

Him and a buddy decided Christmas day to go out in a field with it to spin donuts. Rolled it over and totalled it. Had 64 miles on it.

You just can't fix stupid.

Not really a total.  Looks like all you need to do is take the driver's side door off and replace everything else.  He'll be back on the road in no time!

Expensive (typically powerful) cars are looked at in our culture as a status symbol. An unfortunate result of that is many people who don't know how to drive/know nothing about cars go out as soon they get some money and buy powerful cars and end up wrecking them. This is a perfect example but not uncommon at all, gearheads just sit back and shake their heads.

When Dodge announced the $60,000 Challenger SRT Hellcat and Charger SRT Hellcat earlier this year – with 707 horsepower motors that make them the most powerful stock muscle cars on the streets of America today – it was almost inevitable what might happen when someone would push one to … and past … its limits.

On a related note... Dear everyone posting in the F150 thread: THIS is a vehicle worth 60K.

I seriously doubt he paid $60K for it. Probably a good bit more. The ones I've seen have an stupid amount of DAP on the sticker.

Maybe if production caught up with demand and they turned them out like a normal car after a year or so, yeah maybe then $60K, but not today. No way.

Cars with high performance engines that make 707 horsepower have no place on our public highways. Nobody needs 707 horsepower to go to the grocery store. That car nearly killed the driver. Average drivers don't have the training to handle a super car like professionally trained drivers

I am a responsible car owner and we have no need for these racetrack vehicles on our streets. You can buy these cars online and turn our streets into dragstrips. OH THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!! I stand for common sense horsepower regulation.

Ford has something similar called My Key, you can program one key so the speed and a bunch of other things are limited. They say it's good when you kids or other people drive the vehicle.

Interesting tidbit from the article. The Hellcat models have two keys. One allows you 500 horsepower and the second is wide open. I'd never seen that mentioned before.
Red key and black I believe.

Ford also ran a similar program with the Boss 302 Mustangs. Black key for street tune, a red key for "track" use only. It's a change in the tuning.

When they were still preproduction, I was driving past the Chrysler tech center on I75. I saw a Hellcat on the on-ramp, accelerating. It got on, the driver punched it. He caught up to me quick and got off at the next exit.

I was doing a steady 75mph; the acceleration of that car was insane.

Anecdotal and CSB I know but the Hellcat is for real, and it's good to see car companies offering serious performance again.
