Fatherhood is a blessing, without a doubt, but you looked at that all wrong and without putting yourself in my shoes. My daughter is 2. She doesn't do things like make her breakfast or carry on lengthy conversations. She can't even go poopy in the toilet. I work nights and I changed my schedule in order to be home during the day to take care of my daughter. You need to realized what kind of strain this has put on me. I work 8 hours and come home to a 2 y/o then get to spend the next 9 hours as her only caregiver. For the last 2+ years most days I am lucky to get 3 hours of sleep at any one time. How I have continued to function for this long and not lost my mind is really beyond me. On work days I barely see my wife. 30 minutes in the morning while she gets ready for work and maybe an hour when she gets home and before I pass out. Most days I am so tired I can't even drag myself off the couch to do anything unless it's for the smalls. Weekends are my reprieve. The wife is home and I can get a full days sleep. We spend time together , just the two of us and as a family. Why would I want that to end? I love my kid and love being a dad. Feeling like I work 17 hours a day and feeling like I never sleep is killing me though. |
