If so, it seems they would be of limited benefit on the battlefield against foot-mobile folks that aren't deaf. Granted, that may provide a side benefit. If a drone is orbiting over you, you are going to be less likely to move around. But it seems a higher flying, quieter drone with good optics would be better for getting intel on a tactical battlefield like this. |

Charging_Handle, to answer your question, these drones can be quiet if they flew up higher, but because there really isn't a big anti-air threat, the drones can come in lower. One advantage of this is that depending on the optics on the UAV, this allows them to better see and ID the target with a lower cost drone.
There are drones in the U.S. that fly pretty high up, you wouldn't even see them with the naked eye let alone hear them. They also have optics to match the increased range they operate at. Here's a video of U.S. drones using FLIR systems on various targets to give you an idea of how well they can see.
