I fear to think what Hollywood would turn a remake into. Hollywood almost ensured that the original never came to be

You might be able to replace the old cast but I just can't see how you replace Jackie Gleason...

I think a more modern darker take would work:

Bandit - Keanu Reeves
Frog - Bridget Moynahan
Cletus - Willem Dafoe
Justice - Mikael Nyqvist
Junior - Dean Winters

I want to see Tom Hanks as Buford T Justice, just to see him uttering off-color jokes, cussing and talking about punching his wife in the mouth.

Goodman as the sheriff
Will Ferrell as Jr

Probably Sam Jackson and Kevin Hart as the Enos(s) as they would need to add some sort of color to get this made and I think they would do a decent job even though I dislike Hart
