Gall bladder removed

I consider the numerous surgeries that I have received proof that I have not lived a sedentary uneventful  life.

I'm 58. Several due broken bones that required plates, screws, etc. plus removal of said hardware. In the last ten years of so I've had sinus surgery I should have had many years before I did. Since 2011 I've had three eye surgeries. Scleral buckle for a detached retina and laser to repair tears in the other eye. Cataract surgery, they wake you up and you get to watch them do most of this one. Epiretinal membrane peel to remove scar tissue. Another one where they wake you up after the initial work to put the trocars in place. Nothing like talking to someone while they muck about inside your eye.

Here's a video about the buckle surgery. Its not for the squeamish. It puts new meaning to don't run with scissors. All three eye surgeries leave you looking like you were on the losing end of a beating.

I'll be going back under the knife again here pretty soon.

1. Laser in eye to repair a torn retina.  Had to be done without any pain killer and it HURT!!!!!!

2. Heart Attack, Cardiac Arrest, and immediate Cath to my widowmaker artery.  The HA was a 11 on a 1-10 scale.I've gon over how I survived it several times here.

3. Gall Bladder with Gangrene a month later.in hospital for a month.  Little pain as I was on dilaudid for the whole time.  No pain but I came out an opium addict.

Need a complete reverse shoulder surgery that I'm going to decline until I can't stand it.  My muscle rehab on proper chest and back muscles is working and I've reduced pain 25% or so in the past week

1.  broken leg.  First doctor told me it was the worst break he'd seen 7 or 8 years.  He called the ambulance to come take me to the hospital.  They told me (one of the largest hospitals in the Richmond, VA area) that they didn't have the people or materials to fix it that day.  They put a awkward ass soft cast on it, sent me home, set an appt. for 3 days later when they could get their stuff together to fix it.  Surgery went 3 times as long as they predicted (scared the crap out of my wife, she thought I'd died or something).  Still have two plates and 7 screws in my leg (doctor refused to take them out after it was fully healed).  You can see one screw head sticking out in a bump below my knee and pressing on the skin shows the outline of one of the plates.  I'm really lucky because the only time it bothers me is if I bump that screw head on something solid.  Goes straight to the bone with a real jolt.

2.  possibly due to the strain on my left knee (due to the way I walked while recovering from the surgery on my right leg) I tore/split the cartilage in my left knee and had to have some of it removed.  That was relatively minor and only took have the time to recover as #1 (2 months vs. 4 months) before going back to work full time.

3.  while being x-rayed for possible pneumonia a couple years back they found a 4" diameter tumor in my chest between my heart and right lung.  Took 2 months to recover (get back to work) after that one, too.  I don't smoke, never have.  It wasn't a tumor in my lungs, but in the chest cavity itself.  That one was a rush job, too.  Found it on a Thursday, ran extra tests, operated 11 days after they confirmed the tumor through an MRI and got me off the blood thinner I take to keep me from getting blood clots.  That was the reason for adding a week to the delay, getting the blood thinner out of my system.  I took a couple extra days off from work before that one.  Wanted to spend time with my wife/kids and drive my Coupe a few times just in  case something happened on the operating table and I didn't come back.

Hope I don't have anymore.  My left shoulder has been messed up for years and will probably stay that way.  I have a blood clot in my right leg the doctor won't operate on because "it only blocks 1/3 of the blood flow from my lower leg back to the heart".

Last Monday I had a fusion at C6/7 which also included a plate and screws mounted to my vertebrae.  I'll be out of work for 5-6 weeks.  I figure during these weeks, I'll likely double my post count before being struck with the perma ban hammer.

Prior to this, I had a fusion at C5/6 roughly 17 years ago.  It's all a result of an auto accident and has been a real pain in the neck for many years.
