Just curious how many arfcommers have actually been in the air on a military aircraft. If your one of the lucky civilians who have flown on a military aircraft you count too. Civilian aircraft used as charters do not count. Unfortunately the only military aircraft I have flown on was a POS C5, we flew from McCord to Louisville, Ky then back. No windows and the pos broke down delaying our return. Where was the C-5 from? What broke? How long was the delay? I guess the C5 was from McCord? I have no idea what broke, the military usually does not tell E-4s all the details of whats going on. The delay was 24 hours the next day we left. While waiting we were sent to a Kentucky ANG hanger and told to sit in a row of seats on a long metal pallet. There were dead rabbits in the seats |

Seems like hardly enough to dip into POS-name-calling territory. I've been able to disappoint folks much more than that. The issue with C-5s, from a user's perspective, is that we don't have many. If your cargo load is put up against us, we can't just swap out another aircraft and crew if yours breaks. Mainly because there isn't just a hot-spare sitting there, empty. They aren't going to recut 2 C-17s or 6ish C-130s to pick up the load...if it will even fit. Unless it is high-priority cargo, you just have to wait for that big beautiful bird to get all fixed up. You could have enlisted Air Force, we have less dead rabbits in our hotels as we wait for MX to do their magic. |

KC-130R
CH-46 C-130 C-141 KC-10 My buddy used to rent a T-34 from the Aero Club at Edwards and I have flown back seat (and had stick time) in that as well. |
|
Been on more C141s, C130s, C5s and tankers than I can remember. I've got a couple hours of stick time in F15s and F16s (incentive rides) and got a ride in an old AK ANG Huey once. Scariest flight ever was in a Russian cargo plane during a joint exercise with the Polish AF....don't recall the make/model, but they had a handheld GPS unit duct taped to the dashboard because the avionics was inop. I saw a 5' wing panel rip off while at altitude on the same flight.
I had a fun career |

Five flights in KC-135s when I was in AFROTC. Took a nap or two in the refuelers position. Cool as hell to jus watch the earth pass by below. One crew in particular was cool as hell when taking us out to Travis AFB. Showing us everything about their jobs chatting about cool stuff they had done. So for the way back I bought some of that premade cookie dough and we made fresh cookies in their oven. Made for another really great flight.
Oh, and I forgot the PT-17. Had my first hour of instruction in one. |

Former military pilot.
Flew T-37 Tweet, T-1 Jayhawk, E-3 Sentry (AWACS). Got picked up by a UH-1 Huey in SERE lol. |

I've flown in and jumped out of just about every troop transport in the arsenal. Never flown in a 47, and never jumped a Huey though.
