This thread isn't aimed at any one individual, its just notice of a general trend.
We have lots of "look at Grampa's stuff from the garage that I found" threads. Lots of them are, as you'd expect, US veterans. But a big group, probably statistically too many for them all to be true, are German,Nazi or SS in derivation. Nobody ever posts a thread about Grampa's exploits in the British Army, and NOBODY ever finds out Grampa was in the Red Guards or fought for Castro. We will wait along time for the first "my grampa surrendered to the Germans in 1940 France" thread. There are shitloads of you who know the names and bios of German air aces, tank aces and unit commanders, and the whole order of battle of the Waffen SS. I don't see half as much as adulation for US pilots or tankers or infantrymen, and I just don't see posters who can tell you who commanded what US Regiment in any given year... They can tell that info for the Waffen SS though.... Then there's the guys that like to spend thousands to dress up as Waffen SS troops and run around the woods. Confederate and Revolutionary War re-en-actors sympathize and admire the units they represent, but Nazi re-en-actors just want to keep history alive.... sure thing. I think GD loves them some Nazis. (But not the camp guards, just the ones that were apolitically fighting against communism.) * ETA - I'm off to work... I'll check this in 9 hours. |

Surely my sarcasm meter is on the blink tonight. |

It's the uniforms. Our uniforms and equipment looked like shit.

You do realize that the German army revolutionized warfare by decentralizing command and working with small units? The Germans had some great military leaders. |

I went to the Stormfront website once. I was researching a future handgun purchase and looking for online reviews. I had no idea what stormfront was before I went there and saw the big old nazi banner. I started smashing that back button as fast and hard as I could. What was really embarrassing was me having to tell my wife I used her work computer (she is a school teacher) to go to a neo-nazi website.
For the record, not a lover of nazis, socialists, communists, racists, or liberals. |

There's a difference between agreeing with the Nazi ideology and knowing the names of the highest scoring aces in history, for example. Like it or not, WWII is probably the most important event in recent history.
Knowing the history of Rome doesn't mean one wants to be Caesar. Likewise, knowing the history of Europe does not mean one wants to be Hitler. |

Apostrophe Nazi says there is no apostrophe in Nazis. But seriously in the big battles between the Russians and the Germans , I always find myself pulling for the Germans, dont know why. |

Damn I have some wwII german stuff , along with GI , british , russian , etc and alot of other shit.
But i'm a nazi because i got some nazi stuff? I guess that makes me a commie , Imperialist , socalist , .......... |

There must be a corollary to Godwin's Law to cover the case where the first post in a thread calls half of everyone a Nazi.

I've got a collection of iron crosses and other medals from WW1. Apparently that means I'm for the Kaiser.

I posted one about my uncle 2 months back and his tales.
I've seen PLENTY of photo threads from the collections of relatives who served. This week we've had 2-3 ww2 threads featuring American photos and similar. Yeah , i know the name of Nazi aces, and can name a great deal of Hitler's cabinet, but I can do the same for the US, Russia, China and Italy. I can talk the finer points of the resistance of nationalist China. Post Japan Mengkuko & Manchukuo and the effect on the politics of today. We can talk about Italian chemical warfare in Ethiopia, or US tank doctrine. How about the finer points of US aerial rockets vs the Russian PTAB usage on tanks. I'm not a Nazi nor support them, but I prefer to research and try to view ww2 in it's reality. The truth of the war isn't allies = good , axis = bad. It was MUCH more complex than that and every country made extremely amazing (and sometimes catastrophic) decisions during the course of the war. |

My dad was the only helicopter mechanic in Vietnam. How he was able to keep all those hueys running is beyond me. Kinda the same thing. The "look at me" crowd. Im valuable or important because my dad/ grandad was Patton's driver and he was in the airborne and the first SEAL class. <shrug> That's part of the internet. People wanting to appear to be one of the bad boys. Mostly old white dudes wishing their wives would quit bugging them while they post awesome ass threads on the interwebz. I gotta go. My wife wants to go see The Vow.

My grandfather died at Auschwitz. He fell out of a guard tower. Seriously, OP, I don't know what you're smoking. I love to collect Soviet/Eastern Block stuff. I absolutely despise communists. So much so that I moved to the U.S. from Canada. In the same way, I don't think that collectors of Nazi memorabilia/weapons/uniforms are Nazi sympathizers, or at least the vast majority are not. |

Being of German heritage, I'm pretty sure some of my long lost relatives fought in the Furher's military.

Nobody ever posts a thread about Grampa's exploits in the British Army... Well, let me just remedy that for ya. My family is from England. My dad served in the British Army in the early 1950s, and my grandfather before him during WWII. He told me some funny stories involving giant ant hills and sticks of dynamite in India that resulted in guys running around like madmen and jumping into the river. In fact, my other grandfather who was much older joined the British Army when he was 12. He was too young to handle a rifle, so they made him a drummer boy. This is a picture of him serving in India in 1916... Is that enough, or ya thirsty for more? |

I was disgusted to see several tables worth of nazi/white supremacist gear at the crossroads show several weeks ago. Selling historical items is one thing, but the guys at this table had freshly printed shirts. I need some work done on my bike and checked a local indie shop nearby. I would do business with them but they sell air cleaner covers with "SS" on them. That being said, I wouldn't turn down a gun with nazi markings because ive always been interested in collecting historic guns.
