I really hate when you ask them a question about a product and the extent of their ability to answer is by leaning over and reading the small white info placard under the product. Conversely, one advantage of this "job-less recession" we are still in is that stores like Home Depot (at least in my area) have canned all the pimply-faced teenagers and replaced them with knowledgeable 50-60 yr old dudes that were tradesmen before losing their jobs. So at least now I can ask a question and expect a somewhat informed response. And I absolutely love self check-out registers. If this Lowe's Labs are the same people that built the 70s-based ASCII Lowes POS terminal interface, I for one am not worried.

Good. Show this to every minimum wage, low skill worker who is demanding $15/hr. View Quote Most of them won't understand it. And in the areas of the country where they dominate.... I bet it takes less than five minutes for one "person" with a hammer to render a $50K robot unservicable. And those who do it will be cheered on by the leering jackals that dominate the left. |

I would love to see a computer figure out some of the off the wall shit customers asked me when I worked at Lowe's and Home Depot. Like the people who knew what they wanted, but had no idea what it was called and couldn't describe it worth a fuck. View Quote Describe something to Google and see what it turns up. You'd be surprised how good it is and that's without limiting the search to a small subset of items that the store actually carries. Of course there are limitations, but that's why they'll still keep one meatbag on staff. |

At the end of the day, an economy has a finite amount of wealth to spread around. The more one portion takes, the less is left for other portions. So, the more money/benefits/cost is associated with the workforce, the less the employer will have to operate or take as profit. When this happens, the employer will be forced to make cuts to the workforce to regain the balance or upper hand.
What is happening with minimum wages, healthcare mandates, insurance costs, fuel costs, etc, will have a predictable result of reducing the money available to sustain the size of the workforce. The good idea fairies will bring about devastating long term change for short term gains. Much like unions began bargaining themselves out of existence or relevance...simply move production when it gets too expensive. Or shaft retiree benefits, which unions usually don't buck too hard on, after all, they want the dues-paying members to be happy even at the expense of the vested members. Liberalism and socialism are stupid as far as economics go. See how the most blue states now have huge wage and standard of living disparities? Rich get richer, poor gets poorer, middle moves one way or another until it's practically gone. |

And as usual, you will never be able to find one when you need it.
