I'm not running anything regarding this situation, I think Julie Connolly is (in Canada).

I don't know her.  But I will certainly reach out.

Here in the US, some of our bros are getting together (we all served together, but are all out now, except one or two guys).  That effort is being discussed right now in the generate COA's phase.  It is a separate thing from the gofundme, so I don't want to talk about it too much in this thread.

Prayers sent . I was thinking someone here needs to adopt them and then someone stepped up. I am thinking if the paperwork is handled before the mom passes this may help the kids a ton .

In case you missed my post on page 1, see if a mod will highlight the thread with a color to distinguish from normal GD threads, and put the title in bold. It will help make it more noticeable.

And DO NOT LET IT GET TACKED. That will kill views to the thread.

This has been cleared with Striker.

Many of you who were around 2012 and prior probably remember Stryker_11A (real name Pat Smith).  He died in a motorcycle accident in November 2012, IIRC.

His wife was just diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 47.

Pat didn't have much in the way of family.  Neither does his wife, Mariah.

Pat and Mariah had two sons, both very young when Pat died.

Pat was a character, in a good way.  Mariah never really recovered from the shock of Pat's death.

After Pat died, Mariah took the boys back to Canada (she is Canadian).

They are now going to be orphans.

See link below.  Text is cut and paste from the gofundme site.

I believe Julie Connoly is Maria's doctor.

If you can't contribute because finances won't allow, remember them in your prayers.

Text:

Two beautiful kids originally lost their veteran father in a motor vehicle accident. Their mother, Mariah, is now terminal with cancer. We need any help available.

My name is Julie and I'm hoping that anyone with the means to give, can find it in your heart to help these 2 young brothers.

Mariah?s Battle with Cancer

Mariah is a beautiful mother. She is 47 years old. She developed a huge deep venous thrombosis, presenting as arm pain in early October 2016. It spanned three large veins in her left shoulder area, including her axillary, subclavian and jugular. It was found to be Cancer.

Upon further imaging, it has been found that she has extensive tumours in her lungs and mediastinum, surrounding her heart. Moreover, her liver is full of metastatic tumours. The primary source of the cancer is unknown but it appears to be from the lung. She is a lifetime non-smoker and previously she was a respiratory therapist.

Without treatment she may have as little as 4-6 months to live. With treatment, she may have as much as one year.

The Father

The boy?s father passed away due to a motor vehicle accident on his way to work ( http://articles.philly.com/2011-11-02/news/30350575_1_iraq-war-beiji-first-battalion ).

The Plan

With no current guardian for the children, Mariah has to make huge decisions about their future. She is focusing her remaining time on her sons and is not working. She is living with the funds from her late husband's insurance which is depleting.

Any funds would be used for funeral arrangements, legal fees for guardianship, care, and a protected trust for the children?s future.

Please do what you can to help Mariah and her family. Any contribution will be very much appreciated.

Please help by sharing!

Julie Connolly

Thanks to all for contributions so far and for those expressing the willingness to step up for the boys if necessary.

I will make updates in this thread as they arise.

There are other things going on from guys that served with Pat, but as I noted above, I'm not going to talk about them while it's in the discussion phase.

I'll update this thread as circumstances develop.

Also, I posted Pat's obit in the OP.

And, for those of you who are inclined to do so, please share the gofundme link on your social media.

Thanks all,

PP

You're a good man Sylvan. So are the others that have offered to foster. As a man with a supporting wife we'd love to foster these boys. We are currently putting our house on the market so we can get a bigger house so we can adopt.

Prayers sent and we'll see what we can contribute.

The temp charge on my credit card shows the charge in Canadian, which is once again less than US dollars.

I might have to add some more later on.

I don't know that they'd be entitled to DIC, because while Pat had a purple heart, he died in a traffic accident.

He wasn't 100%, so they're not eligible for Chapter 35.

What is the legal system like in Canada for these situations - are the kiddos off into foster care or are they shipped off to distant relatives who may not have known their names?

That makes this even worse.

Sad there's no family to stand up and take them on.

We do have 2 Arfcommers who will take them on though. The selflesness and generosity of this group never ceases to amaze me.

The province will house the kids and attempt to find a close relative that is able to take them, which it doesn't sound like there is.  barring roadblocks to house the kids with family, even distant family, they'll go into the foster care system.

The mothers healthcare will be covered automatically.  I'm not a fan of the top-down socialist bullshit system in Canada, and she's probably not going to receive world class care, but Canada does an adequate job of caring for long-term illnesses, especially terminal illnesses.  My old man had pancreatic cancer and he was very satisfied with his care, as was my family.

What a horrible situation.  Good grief.

I hope they find a good foster family.

It's not right for a good man's sons to just end up dumped in the system like nothing.

I am sure the mother is in a bad place mentally, but I hope she seriously looks into adopting them out before she gets too ill.  Some people just shut down.

Sad situation.  Donated, but I doubt money will be enough here.
