I had an 89 shadow es turbo. That car was a damn hoot, especially when I made a makeshift boost controller. As the body was shot I picked up the most grandma worthy 89 Sundance and converted the interior from the auto components with the manual components from the es. With 10 lbs of boost that fucker would put a good challenge to lots of fast cars.
My buddy has a csx-t that we did a 2.4 motor with a Holset HX40 usually running 14 lbs mounted on top of a quick spool valve. HOLY FUCK! That thing is shit your pants fast. On a set of street legal slicks it will spank vetted all day long. |

NO FWD CAR CAN TOUCH A TURBO COBALT SS! PEROID. END OF ALL GUESSING AND SUPPOSITION!

I had a Dodge Daytona "Shelby Z" or some such nonsense; about the most fun you could have on a K-car chassis. At the same time, I happened upon a Dodge Caravan turbo with a floor shifted 5spd and set out to build the ultimate sleeper.
Returned to my love of the Porsche 928 and the FWD cars were forgotten and sold. CSB about the minivan; my lesbo neighbor about beat my door down when she saw the for sale sign in the van, she bought it that day, and I made a new car buddy. |

The reason FWD performance American cars are so forgettable is that they suck ass. they could maybe do one thing well at a time.
you could have one that was mildly quick. but it had terrible torque steer, or handled like complete shit because it had a overbearing lump of a engine hanging over the front. They defined 'understeer' or you could have one that handled well, but due to its abysmal engine and weight had terrible acceleration. Probably the best was the Neon ACR, because its light weight ment it could overcome its shitty engine, and they handled OK. still had shitty torque steer. There has never been a performance FWD American car because American manufactures have a terrible idea about how to make a good car.. they think, if you want a small car you must be poor, so you get the cheapest thing they could create, if you want performance car, nothing matters but street light to street light, but the suspension is gonna be made out of marshmellows and the car is going to, amazingly, feel heavier then it actually is, because they believe the heavy feel is also associated with quality. the power steering is going to be over powered and vague, because again, light power steering must mean its good. You can't place them in the same class as cars like the Corrado SLC, GTI, or Acura Integra, civic Si because they were simply out classed in every way. these cars handled better, accelerated faster got better mileage, were safer, more comfortable. pretty much did everything right. sure you could build a fast SRT 4 or that pile of shit supercharged cobalt, which was great if you were under 25 and flipped burgers, but the car was a embarrassing pile of shit for adults to own (so was the civic really). in short, they did everything wrong, or cheaply, or its obvious they are scrambling to catch up. |

There were a couple of different versions of the Ford EXP in 1985, my dad was working for a tool and die shop that did work for Chrysler and Ford in the 80's so we got a lot of vehicles from both makers over a short period of time.
One EXP (85, I think) had a 2bbl Holley carb and it would smoke the fuel injected versions. We also had a Mustang SVO (RWD) and the EXP was really quick from the start. Later we had a Shelby Charger, a Plymouth Turismo Duster, and a Shadow Turbo. Horrible cheap plastic interiors and no engine longevity but they were peppy as hell. |

A couple of the previously mentioned cars (EXP, Citation, Impulse) weren't even moderately fast/performance vehicles. They were 10 sec 0-60 and 16-18 second 1/4 mile cars.
Quick wrong wheel drive cars I think of are the Dodge turbo cars of the 80's (GLH,GLH-S,Shadow CSX, Daytona Shelby Z),the Diamond star turbo cars of the 90's (Talon, Eclipse,Laser), the SHO, and the Grand Prix GTP/Regal GS. There are many more as you get in the 2000's but you get the idea. |

A king of low production Dodge FWD cars was the 1992 Daytona IROC r/t. It came with a 224 HP turbo 16 valve engine that set its 0-60 time in the sub 6 second class with the !/4 mile coming in just under 14 seconds. The biggest problem was that the cylinder head was prone to cam failures and the company(Lotus) that made them had no spare parts after the original production run was completed. The was a guy in Wilkes Barre that had one in the dealers garage for over 2 years waiting for parts replacement under warranty... I have no idea whether he ever got the car back from the dealer
