Once it was decided to run it after the first failure of the main (not that they had a choice), it should have been wide fucking open. Fuckers are bad at math. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

It isn't. They just raised it to 100,000 cfs but it was designed to handle 250,000 cfs. Forget math, they are bad at general figuring as well. As the water got near the top of the emergency spillway most people would say "gee figure we should open up the spillway more"? |

I have to ask WTF is the Sheriff giving a news conference, I would want to hear from maybe a Engineer or a Helicopter Pilot to gtfo Sheriff just took over. Engineer from DWR seemed upset about it. Like I said, no coordination or at least the parties are showing their own issues in public. Sheriff's are the senior agency responsible for inland search and rescue operations in a county. It's his ballgame now. Next press conference is in 2.5 hours. That probably means they are on a 2 hour Planning P cycle. |

Before it went dark, you could see what looked like water coming out of the front side of the aux spillway below the weir and all the way across under the parking lot. View Quote |

Some of you guys commenting on that livestream are fucking idiots. I don't think it's that many ARFCOM idiots.... The voice of reason is speaking. Funny as it is, keeping it here would probably be best. |

Look at the government response to this, compare it to reality, and burn that into your head. When there's some emergency where you live, REMEMBER THIS. You need to pay attention and look out for yourself. Don't rely on the government or national media for information. Have a plan in case you have to bug out.

If the spillway can operate at 100k, then why the freak did the ever use the e-spillway to begin with. So stupid. View Quote Because there was severe damage to the spillway downstream of the gates. If it erodes uphill it could damage the dam itself. They ran it as hard as they thought was safe. If the emergency spillway was built correctly the plan would probably have worked. They are getting hit with a triple whammy. Too much water failure of the primary spillway failure of the emergency spillway. Now they are having to take chances beyond what is reasonable and prudent because they are running out of options. |

For now maybe but if there's a total breach it's going to gain speed rapidly. With all of the rain they are about to get in the near future, it's more like "when" not "if". Vegas running a dam failure pool yet? |

They can only choose which spillway to erode.
obvious the e spillway was never planned to be used, or at least not in recent years. It is effectively not a spillway, as it failed with just 12,000 cfs! |

Did I just hear they plan to drop rock from helicopters into the crevice?

news jerk just said dont worry there are evacuation places you can go, and named an RV park with 15 open spaces. Fifteen! How many people in that town? uht oh.

We had a press conference like this in 2010. Army Corps of engineers said everything would be fine. It wasn't. Are you talking about the Nashville flood? Wish we would flood again to take the Yankees to the Gulf. Yes. The day before the flood (Saturday). Corps of Engineers said they had it under control. They didn't divert as much water as they could. Sunday all hell broke loose. |
