Well that was unexpected. Not that he died but who killed him. |

Crap ending. It wasn't a crap ending. Jimmy's words before Nucky shot him were prophetic. Not arguing that it wasnt prophetic or that Nucky shouldnt have died. More how much was left unsaid/told and how he went. Out of all the ways I could have seen it ending, that just seemed weak to me. |

I liked it!
Didn't put it together who the kid was until he confronted him immediately before the shooting. Good show. |

I think the final episode wrapped up most of the issues in the series; however, it glossed over the fact that Dr. Narcisse was supposedly an informant for J. Edgar Hoover. Whatever happened to that relationship? I think that was a plot hole. Anyway, I think the point of the ending was Nucky didn't realize until the end that the point for no return was when he gave Gillian to the Commodore. If Tommy didn't murder Nucky, he would of been arrested by those police officers. He was screwed. |

I knew Nucky was going to get wacked but I thought it would be by Lucky's shooters. I was surprised to find out the kid was Jimmy's son Tommy. Fitting ending.

|
I figured out that the only member of the Commodore's family not show was his grandson after Nucky visited Gillian.
Now, did Gillian set Nucky up? The ending was eleventybillion times better than the ending of the Sopranos.

|
I though the finale was superb. Sad to see the series end, though.
I wonder if Gillian had anything to do with Tommy killing Nucky. |
|
|
Schidtty ending... Should have followed history and sent Nucky to jail for taxes.
However, Nucky did sell his and Gillian's soul for his own prosperity so it was a fitting ending. |
|
|
The timing for Tommy showing up, and Gillian writing letters to Nucky was too good to be just coincidence. Notice how Tommy got stupid and went and got arrested right after Nucky went to the asylum and told Gillian he wasn't going to get her out of jail. He was banking on Nucky helping his mom, and when he didn't, there was no other reason not to kill him.
I'm assuming that she was also given a hysterectomy in the hospital which is the reason she was having trouble standing. |

Great twist at the end!

I wonder if Gillian had anything to do with Tommy killing Nucky. View Quote I wondered that too, but then how would Tommy have known anything about the whole situation? Gillian was VERY protective of Tommy and kept denying to others that Jimmy was dead (until, of course, she killed the lookalike), I doubt she'd have entrusted Tommy with the truth (especially cause Tommy was all of what, 7, during season 4?). I don't think Richard would have told Julia anything about Jimmy and, Julia being the wholesome person she is, I'm sure she tried to raise Tommy to be a good person (despite everything). So how would Tommy even known to exact his revenge against Nucky? |
|
That was weak. I halfway expect him to say, Hello. My name is Tommy Darmody. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

I LOVED the series, but this last season wasn't my cup of tea. I don't care for flashbacks.
I liked the ending though. |

HBO can choke on an entire bag of dicks.
Ending for Rome sucked. Ending of the first season of True Detective sucked. Now this. I called something being off about the kid when he got picked by Eli with all the hobos. I figured he was a fed plant. This was much, MUCH stupider. And the whole "it's not really Nucky Johnson" thing was stupid. It's like making a show called Boxing Empire about a guy named Mike Johnson who meets several real-life figures like Don King, rapes a girl, bites a guy's ear off, and then gets shot in the face. But it's not Mike Tyson.

You know, young Nucky was so good, what about a prequel? The Rise of Nucky Thompson?

Just as a gauge... Postings about this show on ARFcom, really dropped over the last few seasons.
I felt each episode became hurried and too full of threads as the seasons went on. A great show that jumped that shark at some point. |

I will say this... Young Gillian and Nucky were spot on in their roles.
Did anyone else notice the Star Trek music last night? |

Would have been happier if he had tried to kill Nucky, but instead the two men behind him stop him and arrest Nucky for Tax Evasion.

I think the scene between Nucky and Eli was very telling. You don't know if you've swam too far from shore until you do, because then you never make it back. Nucky's fate was sealed when he gave Gillian to the Commodore. He had already swum too far out to shore and all his efforts to get away from the crime and brutality were ultimately futile because of that act. He was dead the whole time, he just didn't know it yet. A broken Gillian produced a broken Jimmy produced a broken Tommy. And Nucky did the breaking. |

I wish they had more Al Capone during the seasons. His character was great.

I like it. He had that coming.
It's fictionalized history, not a reenactment. It doesn't need to be absolutely precise if it gets the general facts and the tone of the time period across to the viewer. Overall the show had some sloppy writing, though. A few characters lingered long past the point where they were needed. |
