I can't really debate the performance of current Haldex awd cars because I don't have enough time in them.

They require periodic maintenance thats beyond the ability of owners to perform properly in nearly every case. Every 35k miles I believe. They also use sensors and electronic controllers, an inherent complication that creates sources of failure. Torsen doesn't have these issues.

this is true, but for the most part cars are moving away from owner maintenance.

FWIW, I've only replaced 3 haldex controllers in 14 years, only seen 1 bad clutch (stuck engaged 100% of the time, owner doesn't care and in the snow yee haaa, only noticed because it doesn't turn as easy in slow speeds)

the Gen 5 is actually less complex then the gen 4 with the same advancements, gen 4 had a pump to maintain pressure, gen 5 uses an accumulator.

those gen 4 filters are mother fuckin expensive though

Which motor.

The v6 tdi is bad ass, though they haven't been out longf enough for me to have a good opinion of them yet. The urea system on the older version of this motor were finicky but worth it as the power and economy from that motor is pretty damn impressive.

If your planning on going more offroad then just poor maintence dirt roads I probably wouldn't suggest it, the zf gearbox is a great road/ light duty transmission, and the vehicle will do well in bad weather on road,  getting in heavy mud/ rocks might be more then it can take on a regular basis.
I
The 2.0 is a bit more buzzy then the.other motors, but they still run surprisingly well and you don't really notice the weight of the vehicle. The 2011 was the first year for the 2.0t, though I don't know of oil consumtion issues for that year its something to be aware of, it was also the first year for the 8 speed.

The 3.2v6 on the early ones was a stout little motor, though they didn't get very good mileage. The problems that occured with those were lower intake flap actuators would fail and vacuum pump gasket would leak oil, neither life threatening just annoying. The manifold flaps weren't cheap. Short of a bad battery I never had a car with this engine towed in (the same driveline was available in the b7 a4)

GARBAGE...but what does 21 years of wholesaling cars and reconditioning experience know...

not as much as 14 years as an Audi specialist.

the 3.0t has been a pretty damn good motor.

the biggest issues with the B8 cars was the early 2.0t and oil consumption. pretty solid otherwise.

Talk to me about the 2015 Q5.....

Cool, thanks.

I love my A5, but somehow missed the fact that the 2010 2.0 motors had oil consumption problems.
