I need to get some for my range, empty tin cans, steel gophers, spinners, etc.
No exotic shooting.
I haven't bought any .357 in maybe 15 years???

I saw this Range & Training ammo on Ammoseek and am wondering if this is me?
Also, would it be useful if evil came upon me in normal everyday activities?

Is there a better option for range and self defense?

Quite a bit of .357 158gr is only semi-jacketed.  That stuff is fine for self defense.  125gr JHP .357 is still the gold standard in stopping bad guys.

It would be fine for the range.  Not for self defense unless that is all you had

All kinds of self defense rounds out there from old technology that works to newer self defense rounds

It also depends on what type of firearm you are shooting for what is best for self defense

Revolver, rifle, short barrel on a revolver?

Just a few safe suggestions for self defense without knowing the firearm

158 HP.  Rem, Fed,Win, hornady

145 silvertip.  Win

135 gr speer gold dot

125 gr rem golden saber

140 gr hp from barnes or federal

Its decent plinking ammo.  I use it for training and also run it in my carbines.  I dont know what powder they use but it doesnt gain much from longer barrels.   For SD, the 125 and 135 grain Speer Gold Dot 38 +p are really hard to beat

For range ammo, I've always used either Federal AmericanEagle or PMC 158grn JSP.

I sure wouldn't want to get hit by it but it's most definitely not the best self-defense .357 available.  Get the 1K for use at the range but also grab a small box of dedicated self-defense ammo.

You fools! Ammo doesn't matter! You simply rack the slide on your revolver. That sound causes cranial thrombosis in criminals, sending them into a panic-induced flight.

You want proof? It happened to my cousin in Kansas. (He heard the guy rack the slide on his Magnum and he ran away like a jackass.)

good choices

both are pretty stout loads IME

also OP -- this is a pretty good value JHP -- Remington UMC 125gr JHP.  not too much more that FMJ / JSP loads

Rem 125 gr JHP -- .357 mag

The New Republic 158gr fmj as sold by targetsportsusa is both (relatively) inexpensive and reliable.  Esthetically,  it looks top-notch.  Haven't chrono'd it.

Have no complaints.   I use it mainly as donor brass for handloading 125gr XTPs...

I do not adhere to the school that requires botique ammo for self defense.  The stuff you are looking at looks to me like it will make satisfctory holes in most mamals.  Would not recommend HP for bears.  The 158 grain .357 is easier on the gun than the 125 grain ammo.  Norma is a reliable manufacturer.  Good luck and have fun.

Forget factory ammo for magnum revolvers.

It's expensive, and often loaded weak.
