L2A1 LMG mag looked something like that.

And that does look like a Inch mag.

IIRC metric FALs can use Inch and Metric mags, but Inch guns like the L1A1 can only use Inch mags.

You have it backwards, sir, metric mags can fit (badly) in an inch-pattern rifle, but the wide front catch tab on the inch mags will not let them seat in a metric rifle. This is one reason why companies like Century produced basically metric-pattern rifles with inch-pattern mag catch setups, which has confused an awful lot of folks.
Any chance of a side view of your mag? Any markings at all anywhere/

Ok, make sense. Been about 15 years since I sold my R1A1 and only have a metric FAL now. Good refresher.

L2A1. Can't recall if the Canadian C2 mags used the disc, but Aussie ones did.

Century also had upper machined by Caspian Arms from their mold. It has the inch rectangle cut instead of the crescent of the metric mag. Metric mags fit perfect and inch no where near lock in. I thought it just wasn't machined correctly but I have seen 3 more like it. All feed from metric mags but inch doesn't fit. Guess it was easier and cheaper that way
