Thanks Dryflash.

Cool deal.  If I were loading more I might have to get in on this.  As it is I haven't loaded the factory 10mm bullets I've got.

Made some new 40 cal 182 grain bullets the other day from 9mm brass. The look and performance closly resembles the Golden Sabor brass jacketed bullets.

I was able to push them at 1080FPS, though my goto load is around 980 fps with these bullets.

Any way to bond these?

Does a person need a special press to make these?

Or will say a 650 work?

Hey BT have you made any progress with dies to make .458 Socom boolets?
I've out of the loop a while. As always your work is impressive, Marty would be proud.

I make these 40 cals and most of my bullets on either a RCBS rockchucker or Lee Classic cast press. The smaller the bullet diameter the less pressure required to form the bullet.

Yep still working on the 458s. I got everything down/perfected execpt the point form die. I just sent a large package to a member over there at the socom forums and will be working on a point form die to complete his package in the next couple months.

I have some pics of some 458s I made from one of my personal dies. A 45 ACP case sized down paired with a 240/265/290 grain 44 cal cast bullet core makes for great 458 bullets.

Here is the 458s with the 290 grain core and 240 grain cores. The typical 45 ACP case weighs 80 grains.

Those do look just like GS expanded bullets... amazing work. Did the lead core seperate from the brass at all ? My previous GS ( informal ) tests had the first gen GS seperating ( lead core from brass jacket.. ) half the time. What did you fire them into ? Water jugs ?

awesome, do you have a website up for them yet or a price list for everything.  Still interested in getting everything set for making 40 cals.

Corbin sells a compound that binds the jacket and core. Heat the unseated core inside the jacket with a torch or grill to melt lead and just add two drops of compound and allow to cool. If done correctly then the lead will 'hug' the brass and will dip down in the middle

ETA: "Corbin sells" he doesn't "send" unless you're willing to pay

It's just HCL.

Go to your local hardware store and buy some muriatic acid (drain cleaner) and you'll be all set.

I plan on trying this soon so I'll post results when I do.

Yep I expect results would be much better with bonded core. I do have some of corbin's corbond and will have to give it a try. It does work good as I have used it with other bullets.

How you been there Jailer?

Been doing good. Spent most of my time this spring and summer concentrating on casting for my 45.

Should have some good bonded core 275 grain 450 bushmaster bullets soon and I'll post results when I do.

Hunting season is just around the corner and my goal is to take a deer with my home made 450 HP bullets.

Post your results with with the bonded core. I would really like to see how the jacket with the deep serrations acts when it's bonded. I assume it'll be similar to a winchester ranger or black talon bullet...?

I'm expecting my press and dies to arrive anyday now

Snother idea-between this and the RCBS tool, is there a case that would have the right diameter for .30 rifle bullets? Can't think of one offhand, but I also don't have every common caliber in front of me to measure+
ETA-I see that it's been done with 5.7 brass. Anything more common? Only 2-3 guys in my area that I know of are shooting 5.7 and they save their brass. Don't really want to buy new brass for it.

I floated the idea using 7.62x25 Tokarev brass - it's berdan primed so almost no one reloads it.  The problem is that it would take multiple dies to draw it down to .308 diameter.

I've actually considered using metal spinning to get the diameter down - my cousin-in-law is a professional metal spinner and they use cartridge brass all the time.  It would just be very slow.

Well I'm still at it, making bullets from brass. Check out my lattest work making 325 grain .500s from scrap ACP brass!

This is awsome.  Wonder how I missed this thread.

Looks like a good use for that crappy A-Merc brass.

At some point I'll be casting small bullets and squishing them into brass.  Just stocking up on bullet sleeves at this point.

BT, you'll be the first to know when I'm ready to get to the next point.

Has there been any issues obtaining the soft lead needed for this type of project?

I saw that too.  However, in cast bullet reloading, aluminum gas checks are commonly used.  Made me wonder.

Would love to see a 500-600 grain .458 example out of old 308 cases.
