I have a bolt action 22LR rifle I would kinda like to thread to 1/2-28 for a suppressor.
The OD at the muzzle is only .595 diameter.
That is not going to leave much of a shoulder. There will be a little, but not much.

So looking for some opinions on if it would be enough of a shoulder for a direct thread suppressor to tighten down against.
Th suppressor is a dead air mask, if it matters (I do not have the suppressor yet, only a couple weeks into my wait).

You could tread it back a little farther and add a threaded spacer to use for a shoulder.  You could loctite the spacer in place, or even weld or solder it.

The major pitch diameter for 1/2" 28 threads is 0.4768" So if your barrel measures 0.595" in diameter, that only leaves you 0.059" material per side.

Would 0.059" be enough of a shoulder for you to feel comfortable with?

I personally would want a bigger shoulder than that.

Exactly. That is why I was asking for more opinions. Cause I know that was leaving only a very small shoulder.

I don’t think it’s ideal but I’ve seen a lot worse. Unless the OD isn’t very concentric I think you will be fine.

Is the can capable of indexing on the muzzle?
If so the shoulder is irrelevant.

Looking at pictures of the muzzle adapter, it does not look like it is.

I think I am going to pass on threading this rifle/barrel and chose a more suitable candidate.

I have a similar situation....22LR Beretta Model 71 that Century brought in several years ago which I think came in as Israeli surplus.  They threaded them 1/2-20 and have no shoulder.   Most use a 1/2-20 to 1/2-28 thread adapter with an internal shoulder for the muzzle to bottom out on.  So I'm just going to make a new endcap for my 22lr can threaded 1/2-20 and internal shoulder to dump the thread adapter.

I think you are fine but if you are worried then there is always adapters that can help. Several of the 22 pistols use thread adapters to get thin threaded barrels to 1/2x28. The S&W M&P 22 uses a readily available 3/8x24 to 1/2x28 adapter that could be used in your situation.

I was worried about my Marlin Papoose barrel being too thin for 1/2x28 threads. When I took it to my machinist buddy he showed me his Savage Rascal that he threaded 1/2x28 with no real shoulder and he only shoots it suppressed.
