Been thinking about getting into Black powder and the like, and while looking at some cap and ball revolvers, a thought came to me, and ive had trouble finding a concrete answer.

Seeing something like this:

Would it be an SBR if the barrel was cut down?

My gut reaction would be yes, but at the same time, I see something like this:

And Im just not sure.

Yes, no, its messy, best to not try it in the first place?

Make sure your "support hand" is behind the cyl when firing.

No, not an sbr as long as you are using only black powder and loading from the front of the cylinder.

Put a cartridge conversion cylinder in it and you are in murky water.

See above post about issues with revolving rifles.  That's the reason so few were made.

Yeah, kinda figured. I already kinda planned on getting one eventually, and likewise kind thought it would be a possible issue.

I just cant justify the expense though.

From what I recall from DGW catalog, it fired both barrels at the same time.

IIRC, they have 18” barrels but check OAL lest you run into that issue if you do a conversion.
Echoing the warning about getting your arm forward of that cylinder gap and getting an unwanted lead injection.

Going back to the original question, as long as you don't have a cartridge conversion installed, NFA rules / laws don't apply to black powder firearms.
So yes you could shorten the barrel on that thing.

There are shoulder stocks out there for all sorts of cap & ball revolvers.

Example 1860 Army Revovlers:

No, they do not.  Each pull of the trigger fires one barrel, and one barrel only.

This plus a bit of work will get you there if you can run a flintlock instead. About half the cost too.

Made in India would be my guess, though I cant find anything on that website.
I do own a center punch and bench top drill press.

Looked at Pedersoli's site and you're correct.

Found that a reviewer on DGW's site had said that his Baker would fire both at once. So, I'm not totally crazy yet.

That is correct that they're an Indian import.

There is a member on muzzle loading forum that does this for a nominal charge, $50. He goes through the lock and checks the frizzen also. What I did with my Brown Bess carbine from that firm, was have it shipped to him so that he can go over it first to see if there is anything off enough to warrant returning it prior to any alterations. The shipping from PA to TX was $32 when he was done. Once you drill the flash holes, no returns.

If you want, I'll PM his member name over there.

Damn... Those are good looking. I was only asking out of curiosity, but seeing those, I may actually get a stock like that.

I'm a member over but haven't been on in awhile. My interest goes in waves and it's currently turned off.
While black powder shooting is fun, cleaning is tedious. I have Lyman Great Plains rifle that I rarely shoot. Plus a Traditions Flintlock pistol that I rarely shoot as well. That double barrel flintlock is cool but I know I would rarely shoot it. So I do appreciate the info but am going to hold off for now. Thanks though!
