Our 2023 High Explosive Class schedule has been updated. Details here:

WCMG High Explosive Class Schedule

Classes are limited to 16 students to ensure everyone gets lots of hands-on experience with different types of High Explosives.  In the Advanced Class on Sunday, we build and detonate a Claymore and an HE Grenade, as well as Satchel Charges, cut down trees, shape charges, etc.  Details in the class listings.

If you didn't want to click on the link above, here's the details:

The Intro Class and Advanced Class are held on the same weekend with the Intro Class on Saturday and Advanced Class on Sunday. Many attendees attend both classes to save on travel cost.

Sounds like fun.

Many years ago I got to attend an FBI Large Vehicle Bomb Post Blast Investigation Course.  They lit off a truck bomb with 3K pounds of ANFO on one of the Navy bombing ranges.  The class had to go in and investigate the scene afterward.  Made a hell of a crater.

Would be interesting for sure.    Used some cool stuff mining.   One .mil product was a
Shape charge that cuts off re-bar, was really helpful in what we were doing.

Are you talking about needing a 40 hr msha?
 This isn't that.

But might be required for a use permit where an employee uses companies caps and powder.

April class has sold out and June class as 6 slots left.  The Intro Class and Advanced Class are held on the same weekend with the Intro Class on Saturday and Advanced Class on Sunday. Many attendees attend both classes to save on travel cost.

Did inventory today and we have 375 lbs of high explosive in stock.  We ordered a bunch more that is arriving in two weeks, so our students don't have to worry about running out during class.

I see what you did there.

We need to expand our high explosive magazine weight limits, just got offered Bulk C-4 for $35 a pound and I'm near max capacity now so had to turn it down.

A very big THANK YOU to Ballistic Dummy Lab for donating a head and torso for our April 30’th Advanced Usage of High Explosive Class.  Students will be using (aka destroying) them during class with high explosives.  Possibly wrapping DetCord around the head, or jamming C-4 into an eye socket, or maybe just taping a stick of dynamite to the side of the head, well it’s students choice during the Advanced Class so we will see how creative they can be.

I was at a sandstone site drilling and blasting and a young guy that was helping says,  for the shot I'm going to go over by the metal building to watch.

I said the one with the holes in it 50 yards away.    Um yes.

Well that's why we're not going to be standing over there.   He said he would duck his head if needed.
Nope pard I don't think you understand the speed of the flyrock here and I'll just have to save you from yourself  here.

I would have like to had a dummy for those shots .

That's exactly right, you're not going to dodge a piece of flyrock.  This year during the safety briefing, we are going to have a closed-fist ballistic hand holding a detonator (aka blasting cap for some readers) to show the power behind a det and why you should always carry them by the wires.  Should be a sobering experience for the class.

The grand finale of the Advance Class is dual Claymore mines with real PETN (1.5 lbs.) in each Claymore daisy chained together with 50gr DetCord.  Details here:  https://wcmg.eventbrite.com

We just opened up ticket sales for our last high-explosive class for the year with the highlight of the Advance Class is the detonation of THREE CLAYMORE mines daisy chained together with 50gr DetCord.  Details here:

https://wcmg.eventbrite.com

FYI - We normally only use around 60 sticks of dynamite for each weekend of classes, but since this is the last class of the year, we need to get rid of ALL OF THE DYNAMITE because we can't store it over winter (goes bad), SOOOO that means we will have to detonate 117 sticks of dynamite during this weekend class, and of course we will also be detonating 50gr and 400gr DetCord, C4 (bulk and block), RDX, PETN, ANFO, Texpak, Kinepak, Blasting Type E, HMX, Comp-B, etc. etc. etc.

Pics from last class... the guys in the foxholes are getting ready to through a 4 lb. HE satchel charge to the enemy bunker 10 feet away.

Signed up my son and I.   I have to say that Event Bright site sucks for signing up multiple people for multiple classes, it only lets you buy one ticket at a time, they when you try to by another ticket my credit card company detects it as fraud and shuts my card off.

Yeah, sorry about that.  It's one of those things where we been using them for 10 years and now we are just used to the ease of them.

This October class is going to be epic!!  We have added so much stuff to the Advanced Class that we had to move some complicated "shots" (aka explosions) to the Introduction Class from Advanced Class.

Sweet.

Really looking forward to the class.

It wouldn't have been a problem if I wasn't trying to register both of us.

Just three slots left for our last high-explosive classes for the year with the highlight of the Advance Class being the detonation of three claymore mines daisy chained together with 50gr DetCord.  We 3D print the Claymore bodies but use real military-grade, commercially-purchased Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (PETN) for the explosive charge (1.5 lbs.) and use the correct size steel balls (700 of them in 1⁄8-inch diameter).  PETN is a little hotter then C-4, so ours is slightly more powerful then the commercially made Claymores, but I think this year we will make two out of PETN and one out of C-4 just to give the class more experience.  Now our HE grenades use RDX Type 5, aka Hexogen, since it comes in a sand-like format that is easy to pour into grenade bodies.  We were lucky enough to purchase another 200 case of M213 fuzes direct from a military contractor, so we can continue to offer HE grenades to the public for the foreseeable future.

Class details here:  https://wcmg.eventbrite.com

$545.00 per class plus Eventbrite's Booking fee.

Here's the class details from Eventbrite:

The Intro Class and Advanced Class are held on the same weekend with the Intro Class on Saturday and Advanced Class on Sunday. Many attendees attend both classes to save on travel cost.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to safely handle and use high explosives including C-4, Semtex, Emulsions, RDX, HMX, Comp-B, DetCord, Dynamite, ANFO, PETN, and binary liquid explosives? Now’s your chance. WCMG LLC has opened up their High Explosive Law Enforcement Training to the general public with no previous experience required. All attendees must be 18+ years old with a valid driver license, be able to pass a Federal Background Check, and be a US Citizen. The $20 background check fee is not included in the ticket price and must be paid seperately after your purchase your class ticket.

We offer two types of classes:

Introduction to High Explosives (HE) Class: This 8-hour class focuses on the hands-on use of different types of HE, different types of firing lines, different types of detonators, and the different types of initiators. This class is HANDS-ON and will instruct students on the safe handling and use of multiple types of High Explosives. For the first 30 minutes of the class, students will be instructed on the history of HE, types of HE, types of detonators, types of firings, proper handling procedures, blast records, and lastly storage requirements. The remaining 7+ hours will be direct hands-on use of HE, including arming the blast initiator, laying the main trunk line, placing the charge, arming the charge with detonators (aka blasting caps) and then the actual firing of multiple types of charges. All firings and setups will be done by students under the direct supervision of an experienced PA Certified Blaster. Class size is limited to 18 students to allow every attendee the chance to handle, set up, and detonate multiple firings. Drinks and lunch will be provided.

Advanced Usage of High Explosives (HE) Class: This 8-hour class takes everything you learned in the Intro class and uses that knowledge in real-world applications. This class focuses on the hands-on use of multiple delayed firings, directional tree dropping, satchel charge, cutting charges, directional ground charges, shape charges, directional water charges, breaching a door using explosives, detonation of three Claymore mines daisy chained together with DetCord, and ending with a HE Grenade throw for the student that traveled the furthest to attend class. The Advance Class will have a refresher training for the first 30 minutes and then+ 7 hours of advanced training. Note: The intro Class is a prerequisite of the Advanced Usage class. Class size is limited to 18 students to allow every attendee the chance to handle, set up, and detonate multiple firings. Drinks and lunch will be provided.

Class Rules: NO cell phones or cameras are permitted to be used during the Introduction class except during a few "shots". Hard hats will be worn at all times and will be provided at no cost; however, students are encouraged to bring their own. Students must bring their own ear and eye protection.

NOTE: WCMG LLC holds multiple ATF Licenses including the coveted FEL Type 20(Dealer and Manufacturer of High Explosives) as well as FFL 10 (Dealer and Manufacturer of Destructive Devices), plus SOT type 02, and is registered with the Department of State (ITAR). Our lead HE instructor is a PA Certified Blaster with the Pennsylvania DEP Mining Division.

Weather Dependent: The safe use of High Explosives requires that there is limited lightning, therefor class may be cancelled if severe thunderstorms are forecasted within 24 hours of class. If the Saturday Introduction Class is cancelled, we will move the Intro Class to Sunday and cancel the Advanced Class. Students will receive 100% refund for their ticket for the cancelled class, however there are no reimbursements for travel or other expenses.

Refunds (other than weather): To put it simply, there are none, with the exception for cancellation due to lightning. Since classes almost always sell out, we do not offer refunds for personal reasons, missed flights, etc. However, if you do miss the class for any reason, you will be giving a credit to attend the class at a later date.

We had a single cancellation due to a broken foot for our sold-out October High Explosive Class.  Ticket will go on sale tomorrow.

Just ONE slot left for our last High Explosive Classes for 2024 to be held in October.  We are the only place in American that is open-to-the-public and teaching civilians on the hands-on use of High Explosives.
