I currently have an Obsidian 9 and really only one host right now, an M&P.
Might add a SAO Beretta at sometime.
Is the EZ Lok a good thing to get with not really switching out between hosts, or is plain ole direct threading fine?

Their response is BS.  I’ve got a little over 1k rounds through my Obsidian9 with Ez Lok with no issues.

The Rugged rep tried to blame EZ Lok even though the OP stated the baffle strikes occurred with a 3 lug setup.

EZ-Lok user here.
Glock, 1911, 2011.
Obisidian 45 and Mod 9 SK.

Highly recommend the EZ-Lok.

Totally solves the problem of cans walking off.

Especially once the can warms up a little and the steel expands, you are NOT getting the can off the muzzle until it cools down and the steel contracts.

I was an early adopter. Yes. I highly recommend it with any reciprocating barrel with boosted silencer. And some fixed barrel setups, too.

Thanks. Guess I'll save up for the setup.
Don't really have many rounds through O9, but this seems like it's a good system.

Are these the only 2 parts I need?

I use Ez-Lok on my pistol cans, including my Obsidian. It works great for me on pistols and my PCC. Never any problems with it, still secure when I check it between mags.

Even if you don’t change hosts much, it’s more secure than 1/2X28(I assume that’s your M&P thread pattern), definitely quicker to thread on/off your one host too.

Yes, for one pistol host you’ll need one of the appropriate muzzle devices for that host. Then you’ll need the one piston for your suppressor.

Sometimes I dream about a world where rimfires come with EZ-Lok threaded barrels instead of 1/2-28.

Full disclosure, I know very little about suppressors, their mounting systems, or what I've gotten myself into. That said, I have an Obsidian45 in jail and have heard nothing but good things about the EZ-Lock system.

Here's the curve-ball.... this is going on a 45-70 with threads cut for 5/8x24. Rotten, but it's what I've got to work with.

Just to clarify so I don't waste time or money, I'll need the Direct Thread to EZ-Lock in 5/8x24 then go for the EZ-Lock itself, correct?

I've already had one end cap strike during a conjugal visit and don't want another one. Thanks gents.

I run EZ Lok on my Obsidian 9 & Odessa 9 without issue. I recommend it.

I also run Griffin's Plan A on a couple ARs

I have EZ lock pistons in my Odessa 9 and Obsidian 45. They've been great.

I don’t have any Rugged suppressors, but EZ-LOK has worked great with my Ghost 45M and Omega 9K.

I have NOT tried the EZ-lock adapter yet, but I have had zero issues with my Glock 45 w/Silencerco barrel and Obsidian 9mm, I do use the Griffin (https://www.griffinarmament.com/st-3a-thread-sealant/) thread sealant on the threaded portion of the barrel.

That's a very fair assessment, thank you Sir

Will be using this for sub-sonic loads only but the search for a propper can to support that beast of a round shall continue.

I considered ezlock for my Obsidian 9 but the expense and not being able to remove the barrel kept me away.  I use teflon tape and check my can every mag, no issues.

The only reason I'm not considering EZ Lock right now is that I have two 9mm cans. One has a 1/2x28 piston for pistols, and the other has a fixed barrel spacer on a 1/2x36 piston. I hate that it's pretty much dedicated to a single 9mm upper, but it is what it is.

Yes - this is a textbook application for EZ Lock... but neither of my cans are compatible with native EZ Lock boosters (vintage Evolution 9s) and I don't want to add length to either setup with EZ->1/2 adapters.

Or if you simply don’t want to fuck with pistons.

Most people don’t really need to be able to remove their barrels routinely. I leave them in for 5-digit stretches. As a mild illustration of that point:

I ran a Glock 19 6000 rounds without any cleaning over a couple weeks, but barrel hood carbon buildup near the forward lug would occasionally cause the gun to hiccup and I could wipe that off the top of the hood and continue running the gun. It seemed like that buildup happened about every 500 rounds and probably was exacerbated by not lubricating the pistol.  I was running HSM reloads- no idea if those were dirtier than normal or not.

Best part is, even if you want to clean it often, you can do so fairly thoroughly without needing to remove the barrel. I think people remove them because they can, and never stop to think about whether its really necessary, since once you take the spring out, the barrel pretty much falls out. Not that there’s anything wrong with removing it for cleaning, either. Its cool to do it like that, just not required with modern service pistols and modern carry pistols, so EZ Lok is fine. I Rocksett mine on because why not. My comps are held on with high temp loctite, because again, why not.

More expensive is going to depend greatly on number of suppressors, number of hosts, number of thread patterns.

If all your hosts are the same thread pattern, it might be less expensive to go with regular pistons. If you start talking multiple suppressors, multiple hosts, multiple thread pattern pistons needed for different hosts. Then you’re quickly looking at 10+ pistons needed. Or you can use a couple Ez-Lok pistons, and a couple of muzzle devices that are usually far cheaper than pistons.

Why do you need to remove the barrel from your slide? Not for cleaning.
