Just read the entire thread.  I am impressed with the marpat, surpat and the a-tacs fg.

Same here. This is an EXCELLENT thread and I'm sub'd.

I'd be really curious how well urban MARPAT or Propper Urban Digital does in various environments. I have a set of Propper Urban Digital (like this) and haven't had the chance to really use it. I picked it up because I live in a very urbanized area, but I'm thinking it may also blend in to thick vegetation and other areas with lots of shadows well, perhaps better than ACU or old school Woodland?

Is this something anyone would be willing to test for us? Please?

If one was pretty much starting from scratch, what would you get for the northeast that is nir compliant?

That might be the SOD Gear combat shirt.

I have the Sabre Defence (German company) Smock, Jacket, and trousers, myself.

It's an awesome pattern for the UK.

My Sabre Smock and Shirt came with Pencott GreenZone velcro patches to cover them up when not being used.

Well, apart from the two thin velcro strips above the breast pockets on the combat shirt. The shirt only has covers for the arm ones.

I am thinking about buying a set of BDU's. Who do you guys think is higher quality, Tru-Spec or Genuine Gear? Which is more comfortable? Which is more functional? Thanks.

Is it just me or do the tan/green boots really show up more than a black/brown pair?  Something about them that draw my eye there in most of these pics.

I love the Pencott stuff it all works great but to me the Greenzone looks like German WW2 SS oak leaf camo scaled down in size.
Still want the Greenzone set none the less!

x2, this is a great thread. I'm hoping others in different AOs will chime in and compare patterns in different environments (desert, high desert, urban, etc.)

Love the thread btw.

I have a test I'm hoping to do this summer up here in AK.  I have some ATACS fabric, and am hoping to get a sample of ATACS FG to compare it to.  I just need to figure out where to get it lol.

Any recommendations?

Once I lose some weight I'll buy an actual set of gear from propper and do an actual test.  I just dont want to buy until I'm not a size fatass.

has anyone ever made something in Urban MARPAT?  the USMC patented it but never put it into use

maybe after the MARPAT patent expires in 2015 someone will put it into production...

I do a lot of hunting in military camouflage and I was curious about Urban MARPAT for some time. I like the MARPAT quite a bit on paper but I wasn't able to find any to try when I was looking for it. That's when I found Propper's Subdued Urban Digital, which is similar but darker overall and contains no green. I got a full set of the Propper "SUD" a while back but I haven't had the time to do a write-up and I usually go out alone so I can't get pictures worthy of posting in this thread.

I will say that for the most part I like it and I think it works better in some wilderness areas than in urban areas around me. To the human eye, the subdued urban digital conceals much better in barren, open, rocky places than Sitka's camo, which is what I used to hunt the high country in (and as a side note, I think Air Force Digital Tiger Stripe works very well in rocky country too, especially where it remains moist and blue/green moss is present). The SUD is also very good in areas with a predominance of volcanic rock, in low light conditions (perfect for night time coyote and pig hunts) and I think it would do just fine in almost any heavily shadowed environment regardless of ambient coloring. It is too dark to use in snow unless there is just a light dusting with lots of exposed spots. With all that said, I mentioned it works better outside of town than it does in the urban areas around me. I live in central AZ where even very heavily developed inner city environments are dusty and brownish, so a bit of tan undertone would make it much more versatile as a tactical uniform. I may get a second set and dye some light tan color in to it for that reason.

that looks like the navy version to me, and i think they use it as a work uniform, as opposed to actual camo

No, I think that is some form of urban digital, not the NWU digital. But I will say that my Propper SUD does not look that dark. Maybe its just from repeat washings or something though, because the pattern is definitely very similar.

When I Googled Subdued Urban Digital, I came up with a lot of results but the truest representation I can find color-wise is of this Rothco t-shirt.

Has anyone started trying out the effectiveness of Kryptec's line?
This is Travis Haley wearing their black "Typhoon"  and their woodland camo.

Yeah multicam is still superior as a practical camo for most places. Kryptek is slightly better in some environments.

Classic woodlands camo was better after a 2-3 washings once you got the deep back and greens slightly faded.
I can't help but wonder if Kryptek will be the same and have a longer service life than MC with more washings before fade-out.

I bought all multicam gear and was convinced it worked great in all environments, but a friend took a picture of me working on somthing in multicam (in the pacific nw forest). There was a woodland jacket in the same picture. I was shocked how well i stood out in multicam and how well the woodland jacket worked.

I think the multicam still works very well in arid enviroments, but i am thinking of getting more woodland or marpat gear for the forest.
