Heard they are laser engraving the top of the receiver post paint so “HK SP5” and serial numbers are in the white now?

How can you tell how new they are (serno range)?

I bought one six months ago and it isn’t in the white.

I just read somewhere they are now laser marking the model and serial numbers on the guns after they are parked and painted, so it’s the same process as the warning label.  Looks like 11/2023 was the transition.

I stopped at a firearm dealer retail store in MN (Top 10 Gunbroker dealer) and all five HK SP5 in stock all had the white outline top rail engravings. I never saw a box for a HK production date as their wholesaler puts white tape over the HK end labels. Another local dealer did have an older production 5/23 SP5 that had the black deep stamping HK SP5 Serial Number. Not much help in identifying the serial number change over on pre or post  finish lettering. It will be interesting if the post finish laser ends up on all SP5 production going forward.

I hate laser etched markings. They are one paint job away from erasing all manufacturer markings.
