Got this in the mail yesterday. I already ordered a new scale for it to give it a better look.

Kershaw Thermite

This is the style of scale, but it will be Toxic Green.

You can find his video on YouTube called pimped our thermite.

I've been thinking about picking up one of the hinderer/ZT collabs like  the 0562

I was thinking about the 0392 but it looks like it's going to get crazy to get one

I just wish that Kershaw would regularly offer an upgraded blade model for all of their knives.  I'm not s a super fan of the 18crmov whatever it is blade steel.  I do'nt need m4 or Elmax or anything, I'de be perfectly fine with CMP-D2 or S30v.

I have or have had s30-v or CMP-D2 versions of all of their knives that they are offered in.  My G10/S30v leek is one of my favorite small pocket knives.

Hindor!!,

It looks better and more functional without scales.

Is it available with US, European or Japan steel?

I think it's china steel only.

I was going to change the factory scale to something more aggressive.

How do you like the 566?

I've been waffling on it. Mostly on reports the fit and finish is more like Kershaw and less like ZT

I love it. The Elmax steel is incredible. Fit and finish are great and it feels like a tank. It's my first ZT though so I can't compare it to others

Do you like the spanto? I hate it. It's about the worst tip I've found for precision cutting. Cool looking knives though, and I still have mine despite not liking much about it. A new scale might fix a lot of my complaints though.

I have quite a few ZTs and the 0566 is every bit as quality of a knife as any of the others.

I prefer the size of the 0566 over the 0300 and 561.

I have the 0566 also and like the deep riding pocket clip. I go back and forth between that and a real hinderer XM3.5(amazingly smooth).  If the hinderer had the deep pocket clip, I would be sold on it but it rides a little higher than I prefer.

The 0566 is a great knife, but it is tight. I have to use the flipper as well.  Recently my torx screw came loose and I have not been carrying it because I need to get a T8 torx to tighten it back down.

Here is a comparison of the 0566(middle), Hinderer XM3.5(right) and a Kershaw Cryo (best $25 knife I have bought)

For the $25 the Cryo costs, it's a great knife to have when you want to cut into something and not worry about breaking it.  Plus it feels really good too.

I don't think they are thumb studs.

I think they are locking studs.

I was planning to use the flipper like my 0770.

Please, tell me more about ZT's in this kershaw thread.

How hard is it to make some scales? Do they just use a grinder/hand file to rough them up?

I have a CNC so the pattern wouldn't be that bad. maybe I can give it a go.

Most of the scales are made out of g10, they are normally cnc'd.  Unless these are different than any other kershaw I've had, the scale is completely flat on the side that screws to the frame, so you can do whatever style you want on the outside as long as the frame side is left flat.

They are not blade stops, they don't contact the frame at any point open or closed. They are very hard to use, so much so that the flipper is the only way to open it.

Sorry, I completely forgot which knife we were talking about and just had some bigger knives pictured in my head.  If it has a flipper on it and it's from kershaw, assume the studs are for a blade stop or for nothing at all.  Every one of their knives I've ever held with a flipper on them had the studs way to close to the pivot to actually use.  I have a cryo as well and the studs are just there for looks i guess?

Aww shit I was confused. I thought we were talking about the thermite. Disregard.

(The thread is about the thermite)

On a side note using thumb studs as stops is harder to do vs a pin in the liners as there are more tolerances available to stack. Shitty Chinese made knives avoid it for this reason.

I can see where wires got crossed. This thread has gotten a little broad in a good way

Very much so. You'd either get a loose lock up or beat the knife apart.

Using the thumb studs is actually cheaper and easier than an internal or frame mounted stop pin. For any of them, they just grind the tang of the blade down until they get the desired lock up anyways.

Also my first 2 sided machining operation. : )

Orange G-10 is here. Just thinking of a pattern to make.

The MDF is .205 thick vs the standard .125"

The orange I bought is .125. I might get some .250 to make some cool grip patterns.
