I'm looking for a 5.56 pistol barrel, 11.5" long, but, with a pistol length gas port.
PSA has a 16" .300 barrel with short pistol gas port, but I can't find one in 5.56.
Ideas?
Thanks.

Curious as to why pistol gas?  Most like to stretch out the gas system as much as possible so that might be a tough find.

Why, exactly?

I ask because I can’t really come up with any reason someone would want such a thing.

I’m not familiar with any, likely because, as everyone else has said, it really makes no sense.

Because reasons.
I don't want to SBR this, if I find a barrel with the right length, I can pin and weld then attach a stock.
The HGs work with a pistol length gas port.

Figured there’s be some unique build causing such an odd question.

I’ve never seen one man, I’d think you may have to explore the custom route if that’s what you want but I’d imagine you may run into problems getting it to run right with such high gas port pressures at that location combined with such a long dwell time.

Good to know. That may be WHY I can't find such a thing in existence. I'll have to look into this.
The HGs are unique in that they'll only work on a pistol barrel, unless I want to spend a ridiculous amount of money for the 231 PFW door adapter to act as a spacer, it's either just going to be a pistol range toy, or, well....the first option.
Thanks.

Just throwing this out there... BCA has a 14.5" with pistol gas. I am assuming it could be cut down to your desired length. My only concern as other have said is the dwell time on such a long barrel with a pistol gas system.

Yes, it has a 5.56 chamber 1:7 twist BCA Barrel

Well, crap. Hadn't thought of that.

On to my next grand idea....when I figure one out.
Thanks.

Why not just chamber it in 300blk?

Almost everything except some of the 16" barrels are pistol length gas already.

The idea is to use a barrel with pistol length gas set so I can use the short 231 knockoff HGs I have, attach a 4 or 5" XM flash hider so I wouldn't have to SBR it.
Would a 300BO chambering eliminate the dwell issue other have mentioned with the 5.56?
Thanks.

Hmm.  For what purpose?  Subsonic 5.56?  Wonder what the size of the hole is?

This is interesting, brought about something I am obviously ignorant of.
Yes I've "built" ARs for years, meaning, I can pull a wrench and tighten a barrel nut, I can use a go or no-go guage, but I'm not familiar with dwell time and the apparently obvious reasons a longer barrel with a short gas system would be an issue.
Someone have a link to a good read on it?
Thanks much for all the input.

Personally, I would sell what you have and buy what it is you are trying to make...

I would, IF someone offered an SBR ready M231 clonish pattern.
