Okay, finding the correct split washer is giving me a headache. The ones I had were too thick (may have been Luth AR?) I ordered a few from AR15sport recently that claim to be to original spec, but they also seem too thick.
What is the actual size/dimensions of an original one? I found a number of old posts here, but still saw some pretty divergent numbers on thickness. Best case is find originals (I know there are some in the EE now, but $21 for a washer hurts. Not saying my OCD may not make me succumb, but I'd rather not.) Barring best case is there a commercial option that works and won't be obvious and look like poo? |

The H&R ones from PSA and the Luth-AR ones are definitely too thick. I also purchased some from AR15sport for $3.50 each: https://ar15sport.com/product/flash-hider-lock-washer-arpart-71/
I got them last week and the thickness appears to be correct. The only difference is that they don't have knurling that some of the real ones did. |

Hmm, okay I need to do a closer look at the ones I got from AR15sport then. They seemed thicker than the one old one I had in my parts bin (probably original, it was from the mid to late 80s when my Dad was building ARs).
Although it would be nice to know what the actual specs are to double check. I figure they ha e to be out there, I'm just not finding them. |

Isn't original spec 1/8"?

https://www.wbparts.com/rfq/1005-00-992-7280.html We are willing to put the wrong barrel on our clones but we get hung up on a lock washer for weeks lol. Next will be the proper stainless steel 1/4 x 28" x 1" fillister head grip screw. |

I dunno. I saw that listed but I also saw a variety of other thicknesses listed too. You could well be right, just trying to confirm.
I have a 14.7 pin and weld and it's just slightly too long for a bayonet to fit properly. The ring slides just past the rear of the flash hider. I'm guessing the combo of the touch longer barrel and a fat split washer? This was not the AR15sport one. Other guys have said a bayonet locks up fine on a 14.7. Only difference I can see is the washer in that case. It's not off by a lot, so that could potentially be it. |

AR15sport did have the correct ones at one time. Well, they at the least had a picture of the correct one. They had a picture of the package with correct part number, date, etc. https://ar15sport.com/product/nos-m16-flash-hider-lock-washer-retro-surp-fhwash/

This is a Fulton Armory split washer , not sure if it thicker or thinner than what you have Attached File

Yep, they had new old stock at one point. They have repros now which look okay I think, but are like 1/8, 0.125 I believe. I'm going to double check after work.
I did throw calipers on some a couple weeks ago when I finished up some builds but didn't write down my numbers. Seeing that 0.11 though sounds right for the one old split washer I had. I know it was thinner than the new ones I got. I used the old one on my 601 and the newer one one GM Hydra Matic. |

Bought some of Brownell's repros a while back, they measure .119". Brownell's no longer list this part#.
Bought some of the gray ones from AR15sport, they measure .125". Tried measuring the one on my M16A1 repro built by US Ordnance, hard to measure on gun but it was much thinner, somewhere between .095 and .100. Later tonight I will try and dig out the old M16 drawings and find the spec. |

I got some from Sarco as well as H&R and Luth-AR - they were all really thick and just looked wrong. While most consider it a minor issue, to me - the wrong width by a good margin just throws the look off. When we're talking about spending $40 for a reproduction safety selector simply because it has dimples on both sides, an extra $10 for the correct washer look doesn't seem like too much to invest.

Couple of the old ones I have with the lines around the side are .107" thick.
I have another from somewhere maybe Brownell's that measures about what the other poster said thick and is a little bigger on the outside dimension also. |

View Quote I don't disagree, but where are the correct ones at! I still have 4 from AR15sport. They measured between 1.21 and 1.24. I looked at what was on my guns too. My original Colt M16A1 barreled upper's washer is definitely thinner. So is the one I used on my 601 that was in my parts box from my dad from the 1980's. The one I used on My GUU-5/A was a Luth AR I believe. It looks a little thicker than the AR15sport ones. Like OTDR said though, it's hard to try and measure them on the gun. |

The only lock washer I have with a similar thickness is a little over on both but not terrible. |
