I was watching that myself, and at one point considered bidding on it (when there was only 1 bid). I decided not to ultimately and forgot about it yesterday until after it ended and when I saw that final prince my jaw hit the floor

I don't get it.

At the end of the day a clone/repro/homage/whatever is exactly that.

It isn't and never will be an original gun, and I just don't understand spending that kind of money on an original/rare part just to put it into a clone/repro/homage gun.

It's like chasing down an original Shelby American 302 to put in an original 6 cylinder car. It isnt and will never be a GT350 .

That said It's not my money, more power to you if that turns your crank, but I dont get it.

I paid $175.00 + shipping for my transitional bolt catch about 8 years ago and that was paying up for it at that time.

Nothing real valuable there - it is the EARLY 601 & 602 & transitional parts that are currently bringing the BIG bucks

Nice parts, but they're not rare like the transitional bolt release in the OP.

That's fine, they are gonna be used for an xm177e2 clone and I have NO Interest in selling them. But there is always someone willing to pay over on Gunbroker is all I was meaning lol. Never said they were Real Valuable, just that I could get good $$$ for them since they were free for me and plenty more sitting in bags & boxes so no telling what I have until I look them all over.

I get the desire to clone, but not at that level.  I guess some people will look at their clone and bask in the part by part authenticity.  My clones are just clone-ish.  But at the end of the day, it’s not my money. 😁

On my retro builds, I originally just planned on having all visible parts being original.  However, it ended up bugging me that I KNEW the internal parts were not original.  I ended up sourcing Edgewater buffers and all original, period correct,  internal parts for them as well 😝

People probably thought I was crazy when I paid $930 for an intact Colt XM177E2 magwell on GB. I wonder what it would sell for now.   Glad I purchased it when I did.  All these vintage parts are drying up!

What approximate year(s) are these pieces supposed to be cloning?

Couldn't you just go buy a 1960s/70s Colt SP1 somewhere and just swap the receiver out for a full-clone-marked receiver? It'd basically have all 'nam date specific parts, instead of buying each part for hundreds apiece.

(601 bolt catch, mag catch, rear takedown pin, and selector are original. Transitional bolt catch, front pivot pin, and rear takedown pin are original on the 607. And no, none of it is for sale ever)

You did a great job on it.  I tried my hand at it on a 601 clone and I went way too deep with it and it came out like shit.

Seriously. Without the research and work done in this forum, these would just be old parts sitting in a dusty tray at the gun show. Fortunately, sometimes they still are.

No joke.  The best information comes from clicking on web searches that have a url that starts with ar15.com.  Not every search leads to success, but eventually with slight changes in your search, it can bring you valuable information.

P.S. It would be great to see ar15.com improve it's search option.  Limited to at least 3 characters in each search really makes it difficult.  Example: N1 stock, 2 position, Mp bolt, or M1 all will fail as a search....  Also, search history is limited to 30 days forcing sorting through web searches for older ar15.com threads.

The search feature is lacking, but there's a trick for two letter searches, use a dash.

Search "N1-" "mp-"

It'll work
