I've bought 2 out of 3 of my suppressors while I was deployed.

Buy it. Tell you're dealer. Ships to dealer. Wait.

Not sure how a F4 sale would go. I've always bought mine from a dealer online.

No doubt just hit up a dealer you use back CONUS and explain the situation to him.  If they are at all decent they will help out no problem.

I was never a ney (neigh?) sayer, but the funny thing to consider is where did the Mk18 Mod 1/Navy 18-1 nomenclature come from?

Official channels or just some guy saying "What the hell do we call this thing?"

"I dunno, what about Mk18 Mod 1?"

"Sounds good, stamp it!!!"

What made it easier for me, was having my dad on my trust.

I bought my 12th Model when I was 20. I was stationed in Hawaii at the time. Bought it over the phone from my dealer, had my dad to all the paperwork while I was away.

I went to pick it up from the dealer on my pre-deployment leave.

I bought my KAC NT4 for $1250 from Major Malfunction back before he became wholesale only. Did the same thing again...had my dad do the paperwork. It was waiting on the kitchen table at home for me when I came home for post-deployment leave.

I've heard of dealers holding on to certain items until the buyer can come pick it up/do paperwork. I'm sure it's common.

My dealer waived all the transfer fees as I was active duty as a "Thank You"

I'm jealous. My dad is on my trust but he's not much help as he's busy all the time. I should be back in CONUS next Feb.; the NT4 and 12th model can are top priorities when I'm home.

Great advice and idea!  Just remember guys, whoever is living with you at your house where your NFA shit is going to be, needs to be on your trust.  I've got my wifey and a good friend so if SHTF, I can just dump and go.

You were.

None of us had seen any proof before that first pic CD posted. People can make claims all day until they're blue in the face, but until evidence is posted, no fanx.

Which thanks to CD, we finally got.

*******OFFHAND CQBR CHALLEGE*******

When you guys post your results, I'll need the following- (I'll keep it minimal since we all know the ground rules, and that ONLY CQBR's can be used)

* Your barrel brand and length

* Optic used

* Ammunition used (refer to DBM's rule list for challenge legal ammo)

* Your smallest group size of the three targets (in decimal inches)

* Your AVERAGED total score of the three targets

(for the dumb dumbs, you add the total score of all hits on all 3 targets, and divide by the amount of targets used (3) ) This averaged total is out of 100 possible points.

If anybody wants anything else added to the score card, let me know. I'm open to anything that isn't a given, meaning we don't need distance, shooting position etc, as these are constants.

*******DBM'S OFFHAND CQBR CHALLENGE RULE LIST*******

If these rules don't work for everyone for some reason, let me know.

-50 yards
-10 rounds
-10 seconds (time begins with first shot)
-IPSC paper target
-Standing position
-CQBR clone with appropriate optic or irons
-Only the following types of ammunition may be used (some form of commercial load advertised as such)- M855, M193, Mk262, Mk318 (tell me if I am missing something)

Scoring as follows:

Possible score of 100/100.

Hits in the A zone are 10 pts each. B is 9, C is 8, D is 7.

Shots that do not impact the target receive a score of 0.

Shooters will shoot three separate clean targets, score them and use the average of all three as their score here. This is intended to mitigate the "luck" factor that Stoner mentioned previously.

Ex: a 90/100, a 97/100 and a 99/100 will give you a score of 95.3/100.

Ties go to the shooter with the SINGLE smallest group out of their three.

I misread that. I thought you were receiving an upper, not getting rid of.

Since you have 2 CQBR's I say 1 can be sacrificed. But try to keep the value around 2 G's outgoing, or you're getting butt fucked.

There's a tan NT4QDSS at my local dealer right now. They want 1400 for it...  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

plus sales tax but no F3 wait or transfer fee...

For those (like dan) that have one how is suppression compared to things like M4-2000 or other 556 cans. Similar? Or is the old battle tested KAC loud as hell???
Link Posted: 9/16/2015 10:22:48 PM EDT

It's really not that loud. It has a deeper tone to it which I like.

It's not that much heavier either all things considered (mounts) per M4Socom's pictures. I thought about buying it, but I just bought some MK12 stuff. Maybe next month I'll F3 one unless the buyer would take 50% now lol.

Probably louder than the M4-2000, but you'll never be able to tell.

They all sound the same to me, with the exception with slightly different tone. But equally as loud going by ear.

To many people it seems get so strung up over the decibel ratings that one is better than the other because it's 2 decibels quieter. In reality, it doesnt make a difference. What matters to me is being able to suppress to a *safe* hearing level and build quality.

The M4-2000 doesn't wabble like the NT4 does, but the M4-2000 will likely see more service repairs. The problem I see with AAC cans from time to time is the ratchet on the can failing and needing to be repaired.

Yeah, same gun as the one I posted on page 1k with the clamp mount. My guess is the dude likes his EOTech as far back as possible but still wanted BUIS. Probably not the most optimal solution but I'm sure it works fine in a pinch.

Back when we were discussing the Venezuelan (?) SF using carry handles on their RAS's while training with US forces, I mounted a cut carry handle with the 0-200 aperture up on my RAS just to see how it was. I wouldn't have a problem with using it if it came down to it. I know the MAD as a similarly sized aperture, so it makes sense to me.

[Last Edit: Augee] [#40]
The "Navy 18-1" markings are definitely interesting.

As I've said in the past, no one has ever been able to provide actual documentation of the existence of a "MK 18 MOD 1," despite numerous requests through a variety of channels, but that I would be happy to be proven wrong if someone would actually be able to provide primary source documentation.

So, that being said - some thoughts:

It seems that this is relatively recent - and I'm wondering how much, if at all, this has to do with the serialization of CQB URGs.  While I've been seeing the odd serialized CQB receiver for several years, this it's only recently that it appears to be applying "across the board."  Not to put too fine a point on it - but if this is recent and/or something new, it doesn't make previous uses of "MK 18 MOD 1" correct - it simply means that a new designation has been "born."

I'm still curious, again, not making demands of anyone - to see how the "Navy 18-1" is recorded in the property books, to include nomenclature, LIN, NSN, etc.  It would be interesting to see if the assembly has been granted any other new designations/classifications.

What does this mean for Army CQBRs?  What happens if/when you put a 14.5" upper on it?

"Navy 18-1" is kind of an odd marking.  Wonder why that one was chosen.  It's interesting, actually, that they're re-marking them at all - granted, it's been over a decade - but no such re-marking of MK 12 SPRs appears to have occurred, they all went out the door still saying "M16A1."

A lot of this is beginning to remind me of the "M45" pistol situation.

That is to say - the M1911A1 variant that was rebuilt by PWS with a specific set of modifications, and often referred to as the "MEU(SOC) .45," a descriptive, but not strictly speaking "official" designation.  With the reorganization of the MEUs, the creation of MARSOC, etc. - the MEU(SOC) .45s began being referred to by the spurious designation of "M45," resembling Ordnance Nomenclature... but not really making much sense in that context.  The pistols were still recorded as M1911A1s... but that didn't stop everyone from referring to them as MEU(SOC) .45s - and subsequently as "M45s."

The "M45" nomenclature became so entrenched that it actually spawned a successor in the form of the "M45A1" CQBP, in my mind demonstrating how powerful "words in common usage" can become - if enough people believe it, it becomes fact, right or wrong, and can even become codified.  At the end of the day, the MEU(SOC) .45/M45 was a Marine Corps exclusive weapon, so I guess the Marine Corps gets to decide what to call it.

The same could, perhaps, be said for the Navy, who has proponency for SOF small arms - except their use is not Navy exclusive?  They've also "created" the "SU" series designations, not following the JETDS as one might expect.

The big questions for me would be:

1. At what level was this conceived/decided on/approved?  Was it a Crane internal thing?  Or did it have to go/get approved higher?

2. What does the property book look like, and how will this affect lifecycle?  Does the Navy end up with a similar problem to the "Model 727" a few years ago, where lowers have long been "used" as something else, but are still accounted for as something else?

3. What effect, if any, does this have on 10.3" barrel configured carbines in other services?

What would be really interesting to see is that if the Navy had in fact re-designated the weapon system as the MK 18 MOD 1, sourced through NSWC-Crane - and to see factory lowers marked with "MK 18 MOD 1."  Meanwhile, I would expect that at least the Army, if not the remainder of the services - would continue to source their "base weapons" through TACOM, which would still be M4A1s?

Sorry.  No 10,000 words.

The last part of your post.... I thought Army was getting stuff from Crane too..... So wouldn't they just then be called the same thing?  I thought CD said Crane was the one marking them Mk18 Mod 1.  I guess I need to go back and look at what he said.

OK, I went back and looked.  He did say Crane went out and marked them, but maybe it's only the Navy guns because they're marked "Navy 18-1".  So yeah, what in the heck would they call the ones for Army.  Some Army guys might have a fit if their gun was marked Navy.  LOL.

That fireball.. Come in spraying and you don't need a light.

And this was a first for me, not related to the previous three pics.  Someone had to take the time to actually make the bench and treadmill... And no, the bench didn't move off the rack.
