Here's another recent one I did recently. It's a 16 inch CAR build with a mid length gas system.

This one uses a random lower I’ve had for years, a Dirty Bird A1 upper that I got from AR15Disounts, a 16-inch pencil barrel with FSB with a 1-9 twist from Del-Ton with an A2 flash hider. I used A2-style mid-length handguards from MA Parts. A2 front post and A2 rear peep.

The other upper parts, like the port door assembly and teardrop forward assist, were from Luth AR. I’ve had the lower built for so long that I have no idea whose parts are in it. Nothing fancy…maybe PSA?

For the back end, I picked up a 5-position buffer tube, buffer, and spring and an OD green M4 waffle stock and A2 grip from Tony’s Customs at a local gun show.

I didn't have the front sling swivel on when I took these pics but have added it since then.

So my 20 inch C7A1.5 build is pretty hot on my fav list right now, but this one comes darn close. It's pretty handy, and I like that a 16 inch barrel with mid length gas system will take a bayonet, unlike a 14.5 with a mid length gas system. Because what if I need to bayonet stuff?

Almost an exact copy (green stock set) of mine except I have a flat top and I attached the FSB to a BA gov barrel.  Love that you can stick a bayonet on them.  I have it on my bushmaster lower.

The mid-length thinking S&W AR10 handguards looking great..

Those would look good with a fixed A1 stock, or better yet, a "CS" stock.

Is that what those are S&W handguards? I like them, but didn't know which they were.

I do have a fixed stock midlength, pinned 14.5 barrel though.

Midwest Gun Parts, they are sold out right now but should have them in stock at some point. Also check Numrich Gun Parts. They may have them. I didn't look.

The Smith's or the green ones I used? Or the ones on the A2 carbine?

MA Parts Midlength Handguards

If you mean the ones on my A2 midlength, those are Brownells mid length Portuguese AR10 handguards. I don't believe they make them any more.

If you mean the Smith's, I want to know too!

I used the standard PSA tapered hand guards with heat shields, and a PSA carry handle for mine.

I meant the Smiths. They look a lot like rifle length LSO handguards.

They do! I thought they were a version of that at first. Looks like they're cheap too if they come back in stock.

That looks good 👍

I kinda like my basic black and OD stocks for now, but one can never rule out the rattle can...

Thanks, though I got these quite a while back from someone who claimed they were LSO’s, maybe back in 2007? They seem to more of a taper to the front then the S&W

I have an almost exact copy too. Aero Precision barrel I got cheap at ADCO, NODAK Spud M16A1 upper on an Anderson lower with a post ban non collapsible M4 stock.
It’s a great lightweight, handy rifle. I always use an A2 sight aperture though. ( old eyes)

I got a nice set from Cav Arms or Cavalry Manufacturing they are calling them selves these days. ODG mid length, you can get them M4 style but I went with the thinner classic size. Lots of colors to choose from too.

Late to this thread, but wanted to post my mid-length CAR.

Barrel is a Faxon Gunner 14.5" with a non-F FSB and pinned A2X by RAW. This is probably my most well-balanced AR and incredibly lightweight. I bought the upper used (hence the mismatched color scheme) but was just getting ready to build something similar for a K.I.S.S. general purpose field carbine when I saw this for sale on GAFS. I would have gone with a lightweight chrome-lined barrel if I was building it myself, but I really like the balance with the gunner profile.

I decided I wanted something Gordy-esque, but longer. Ignore the stupid LPVO. A more appropriate dot has since been acquired and installed.

Also, they fit the round handgaurd retainer instead of the triangular.  They are very slim like the CAR forends.  I picked up a set for my dedicated .22 upper I pieced together.  It looks off, but it feels right.  In full auto, you tend to not care about appearances.  The others that have shot it haven’t complained anyway, lol!
