Velocities of the various 5.56 TAP lots have remained remarkably consistent over the last 2½ years.  I still had a few boxes of each lot of 5.56 TAP that I had tested over the last 2½ years, so I decided to fire 10 rounds from each lot over a chronograph in back-to-back fashion.  Seven different lots were tested using an Oehler 35-P chronograph with “proof screen” technology.  The rounds were fired from a 20” Colt M16A2 government profile barrel with chrome lining, a NATO chamber and a 1:7” twist.  All velocities listed below are muzzle velocities, as calculated from the instrumental velocities using Oehler’s Ballistic Explorer.  None of the lots tested had an average muzzle velocity that varied more than 0.61% from the grand average muzzle velocity of 2808 fps and most of the lots varied significantly less than that.

...

Molon, looking at your individual percents relative to the Grand Average Velocity (GAV) of 2808fps over the years for 75gr TAP, it would be better to present those percents more in-line, where the lot that made 2808 is a 100% match to the average.  This way we can meaningfully show that these rounds have maintained their velocity average 99 to 100% of the time.  Here are the percents I get using this approach...

Are you sure?  I just placed an order on Tuesday.  Granted, they didn't have any TAP in stock, but she did take my order for when they produce some.

According to the email I got from them. Yes. Do you have a phone number or something?

Call, hit zero, and ask for Kathy in Law Enforcement sales.  It may have something to do with the SHOT Show if they are suspending orders for a little while...she said she was super busy since a lot of people wanted to get their ammo orders before the show.

Tap FPD 75gr or Black Hills Blue box 75gr OTM

Is one considered any better than the other (fragmentation, consistency, velocity, whatever)??

At what distance (in yards) will the 75gr 5.56 TAP still fragment out of a 7.5", 8.5", 10.5", 11.5", and 12.5" barrels?

According to my chrono MVs and Molon's posted data (BC .352, 2250fps frag threshold):

12.5": 120yds
11.5": 90yds

I don't have anything in 5.56 shorter than 11.5".

Is the TAP PRACTICE (75 gr) slower than TAP FPD?  Does some one have these velocity numbers handy??

She told me over the phone that they have temporarily suspended individual officer sales in order to get it spread around the country by their distributors.  May start up again, but she can't say when.

Just got a case of 200 rounds up here in Canada, PN 8126N Lot #3071003.

Rarer then hen's teeth up here.

10.5" LMT might actually have some useful fragmentation range if I ever need it now.

I'm  not too impressed with this load at this point.  The smallest 10-shot group that I have gotten so far from a chrome lined NATO chambered Colt HBAR at 100 yards is 3.48".

If you look at the logo of the HTM load, it has BVAC in the upper right quadrant.  The red box Bitterroot has almost the same logo, only it has Bitterroot Valley Ammunition.  The font of the type is the same, the logo is almost the same, and BVAC seems a lot like Bitterrroot Valley Ammunition Company to me.

it does for me.
it is sold by Hornady as training ammo, not duty ammo.
It sends the same bullet at the same velocity with almost the same accuracy as regular brass cased .223 TAP.
you decide if you can trust your life to it.

I think this new ASYM stuff uses *new* LC brass and Hornady 75gr w/ cannelure.... though I could be wrong.
