Great post DoubleFeed. I have been looking for this info. This is good info. Thanks |

I use a J Dewey kit, but that really only covers the breech. It's a nice kit and includes a breech guide, rod, chamber brush and mop, and lug tip with swabs, and 2 sided brush. Then i just use a bore snake. I didn't read all the posts, so if someone mentioned it already, sorry about that.

I don't know if this is out of line or not, but the first two links do not work for the site sponsors.
This looks to be the working Bushmaster link. http://www.bushmaster.com/products.asp?cat=15 And here a working link for Armalite. http://www.armalite.com/Categories.aspx?Category=72071bf5-5fda-458d-bc2f-46182d6ca1e9 |

Sorry if I'm being annoying, I'm trying to consolidate all of my various cleaning items (get rid of the crap stuff) and get a solid kit to cover everything so I'm doing my research on peoples preferences and just going through the links so I'll keep submitting updates :) I intend on also giving some additions :) hopefully anyone coming along afterwards can find what they need!
mpro7 - probably best to just change it to the new main URL http://www.mpro7.com/ fp10 - link is dead - not finding a replacement Entreprise - no more valid link on their site to cleaning products Fulton Armory - looks like they love their tetra stuff for cleaning http://www.fulton-armory.com/Tetra-Gun-Care.aspx Lippman - no longer a valid domain - don't see a replacement - i'd call it dead New Mexico Tactical - no longer a valid domain - don't see a replacement - i'd call it dead Both of the MSN groups are dead home.sprynet.com/~frfrog/cleaners.htm is also dead - however it's been replaced by http://www.frfrogspad.com/cleaners.htm - the site is up - that specific page is not currently. i'd update the link and i've emailed him directly |

Thanks, Jesse Similar to this comment any special considerations required for special barrels? Not sure what you mean by ' special barrels '. As to the original question of hoppes #9 in a chrome barrel, as I understand it you can use hoppes or any other solvent that contains ammonia, but you can not leave it in long as it will have a chemical reaction with the chrome and cause it to flake. In other words run a patch soaked with hoppes through your chromed bore, wait a minute or two and then run some dry patches through to clean the hoppes out. Dont let the bore soak as it could cause the chrome plating to flake. That said I generally do not use hoppes in a chromed bore as I find you dont need it. That is one of the purposes of a chromed bore, copper does not stick as well as it does to a chrome molly bore. Breakfree CLP and a borebrush+elbow grease tends to be enough to get out the copper. |

OK guys. Here we go. I am looking for a genuine USGI issue cleaning kit in the nylon pouch. I want the real deal with the phosphated cleaning rod. I have had JUNK imported ones and the rods are crap. I already have an Otis for my guns but want the rods to push out things like a stuck bullet from a squib load (had a few of those). Any idea where I can get them? I have searched the web for hours with no find. Even the big Crossroads of the West Gunshows have nothing but the cheap Chinese crap I refuse to purchase.
Any help will be appreciated. Feel free to PM me. THANKS TO ALL!!. |

If you wanted something to push a jammed bullet out of a chromelined barrel I would avoid anything metal, I've seen graphite or carbon fiber rods, not sure what they cost, but knowing the strength of both I bet they would get a jammed bullet out, or just a dowel rod might do the trick, anything that would do less dmg to the barrel. Just my 2c on lodged bullets.

I work for a Police Department and personally witnessed one of our SWAT guys try to use a boresnake on his AR, He actually got the Boresnake stuck in the barrel and the rifle had to be placed in a vice while our armorer used a pair of vice grips to grab a hold of the snake and use all of his strength to pull it out of the barrel. Originally I thought that the SWAT guy used the wrong size boresnake but, as it turned out it was the right one. The other day, I stopped by Gander Mountain and asked the Gal in the gun department why this would happen. She took out a brand new bore snake and tried to put it in the barrel of a brand new AR. that one too was very tight and wouldn't fit properly into the AR barrel. So, I will not use a bore snake on my Colt LE6920. I purchased an OTIS cleaning kit and the cable works GREAT!! ,This is just my personal opinion for what it's worth.

I hate to comment on this product without actually using it yet (it arrived in the mail today). However, I ordered a couple of products based on numerous youtube videos. The Talon Field Kit is the CAT-M4 tool bundled with the Talon Lug Scraper in a belt wearable case. You can screw in your bore brush into the end of the Talon Lug Scraper to clean the bore and the lugs at the same time.
Talon Field Kit Youtube Video Review You can search youtube as well and find many review videos of people actually cleaning their rifle with it. I keep my AR inspection ready so I'll have to wait for another range day to check out the new items but they sure appear like the missing link in my cleaning kit. BTW, I use a bore snake and the USGI cleaning kit I was issued in the late 80's. |

Any thoughts on frog lube? I just purchased a kit and want to try it out. Though I may treat a non cary hand gun first.
Long wood qtips are super cheap on amazon. FWIW, I use safariland break free CLP and tetra gun lube on all of my firearms. Anyone else have issues with a boresnake? I just picked one up and don't want to fubar my brand spanky barrel. |

Robot voice: Too......many......choices......brain....overload. Human voice: Sounds like an Otis cleaning kit may be the way to go.
EDIT: Just ordered the Otis Modern Sport Rifle/AR Cleaning System. Please let me know if there are additional tools I will need in the cleaning process. |

I have an Otis cleaning kit but I got a Otis swab caught in my barrel one time so I have a multi-segment cleaning rod as well in case my Otis swab gets stuck again. I just keeps this clean rod as a backup.

I bought an Otis kit after reading about the down side of bore snakes. I'm pleased. I just bought a Otis B.O.N.E. tool for the bolt carrier group, but haven't used it yet.
