I think the "longer" extension people are referring to is the carbine extension. The "shorter" ones are the little, stubby ones like the ones Gunsmoke Enterprises sells. I have never heard of anyone having a reliability issue related to the buffer tube length with a pistol using a carbine-length extension. The short one, OTOH, appear to be hit or miss. I am sure the rifle-length one will be fine as well, but it's overkill. If you want a heavier buffer like some of the specialty carbine buffers Slash and Spike's Tactical sell, you'll need a spacer to go behind the buffer spring so the shorter buffer will work. |

For the legal minded types, they won't fit in a stock. I permanently affixed a 1/4" x 1 1/4" fender washer on the back of them. Even if they could be made to fit on a stock, I don't have one to put on them. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/jheregIDPA/ARs/arpistolsstandardbuffer_800.jpg For the doubters, here's a link to the bigbore letter. Standard receiver extensions are legal. Big Bore letter I'm not doubting you, but keep in mind that regardless of what is on the back, if someone shoulders it it is, by defnition, then a stock. Not that I think you'd do any such reckless thing. |

Part of the point of running a standard receiver extension instead of a carbine is cost. I can do the receiver extension, buffer & spring for about $25. That's less than just a heavy buffer. Part of my reasoning is because I can. It's something different. I ran 150 rounds through them last Friday. It worked pretty well. With my elbows resting on the bench I was able to consistent headshots @ 100 yards using iron sights. Not great by the standards of some, but pretty good for me w/o optics. |

Not that I think you'd do any such reckless thing. You can shoulder a pistol all you want. That doesn't mean it has a stock. The receiver extension of an AR is a part required to function correctly. It wasn't designed as a stock. It was designed to allow the firearm to function. On this same topic. I know some people who put round rubber caps like you'd find on a crutch on their AR pistols. (I think it should be legal, but it's too close to the edge for me. I won't do it.) One of them pawned his 7.5" pistol because he needed money. While it was at the pawn shop BATFE did their compliance check. Someone supposedly freaked out, decided it was an unregistered SBR because of the rubber cap & confiscated the AR. I'm told about 10 days later they returned it & said it was legal. One of the people I work w/ at the range has the rubber cap on his 7.5" pistol. Supposedly several BATFE agents have seen it & said it's ok as long as it's round, and not L shaped like a stock. |

I've got a couple things to add here.
My first AR pistol. I bought it because I wasn't sure if I'd like AR pistols, so I'd get the cheap one. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j205/unclefester401/DSCN0144.jpg After a year of it being the gun I shot the most, I figured I'd spend some money and build a real one. My next was a stripped Anvil Arms lower that I got from a group buy. It was temporarily sporting a 5.56 upper that I bought from somebody who got sick of their SBR. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j205/unclefester401/IMG_1502.jpg This was temporary, because Marty over at Teppo Jutsu was building me something special. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j205/unclefester401/IMG_1669.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j205/unclefester401/IMG_1670.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j205/unclefester401/IMG_1673.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j205/unclefester401/IMG_1674.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j205/unclefester401/IMG_1667.jpg Anvil Arms lower Ergo Grip Ace pistol buffer kit Shrewd Brake YHM Specter Length Lightweight Rail 10.5" Barrel Caliber: .458 SOCOM |

Just “finished” my pistol build. I started with an Oly Arms K23 pistol and modified it to the colt 9mm carbine system. also that’s an Eotech, MagPul MIAD grip with witner trigger guard, Insight LED Tac Light and a Spikes Tactical 6" fake can. I had to file the mag adapter to get it to fit in the receiver and I cut an inch off the spikes can to make it screw all the way down. Now looking for single point sling options and thinking of going AOW.

10.25" kit from Model 1, purchased at the big Tulsa Arms show after the election. Tru Glo 10 red dot. Works great! Only 20 rounds of Win white box 55 fmj thru it so far, but I'm pretty happy. Muzzle blast isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
Edit: Well, I guess I don't know how to attach/insert a pic. |

New Zombie Gun for DPMS shoot in april:
7.5 inch upper Anvil arms lower (great guys) Spike's tube and inards YHM carbine length quad VLTOR micro gas block Eotech sight (temp) rubber dipped pistol grip and bumper (it really worked) Skull bling sling (actually works too) Waiting for ladder rail covers this weekend (to dip red of course). Waiting for Magpul buis, young NM lightened bolt carrier and alexander arms trigger group. Can't believe how accurate these things are. Quarter inch at 25 meters over bag. As long as I can hit a Zombie sized torso at 100 meters very quickly! Oh yeah, red and black because that's what most sluty lingerie is made of... http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/807/p2010570rs7.jpg Thanks to everyone on here for the great ideas and help., special thanks to Maddmaxx for his help in ordering "stuff" and good luck with that 745 bench at the meet this weekend....luv ya! |

What is worth defending? What is worth dying for? What is worth living for?
If it rolls, floats, flies or crashes, runs on gasoline or high explosives, goes fast, shoots a big bullet and makes lots of noise, thus producing torque and recoil-Its cool! |

Bufferless AR-15 Pistol in 5.56!
It's finally "done." Based somewhat on a ZM recoil system, but with a forward cocking handle, ala HK. 80% lower. And yes it is .223/5.56 and it does function and cycle. The muzzle device is similar to a kx3 in principle, but more compact. Only thing left is to duracoat all the shiny bits. Most of the workings were designed in Solidworks first, measure twice, cut once! I'll post videos when i get a chance...
