Will it lock back by hand with the mag empty?

My 9Q was to long and when all the way back it wouldn't lock open. I shaved about 3/16" off the nylon end of the buffer and it works like a champ.

[Last Edit: JSchell1309] [#21]

Just finished this one up yesterday and put 200 rounds of mixed brass through it without a single issue. This was my best shot at a budget build with some leftover parts and some Black Friday deals.

Black Creek Precision Blem lower
PSA mil spec lower parts
BCM Mod 2 grip
Kac shockwave blade and tube
Kaw valley pistol caliber buffer and spring
Aero slick side upper
Ballistic Advantage 5.5" barrel
Geissele 7" hand guard
Kac flash can
Spinta blem bolt
Magpul Mlok AFG

Raptor charging handle and Magpul MBUS Pros were borrowed from my AR15 build. Pros will likely stay on this and will find new backups for the AR as its primary sight is a vortex strike eagle. Have an aero charging handle on the way to go on the AR9 to complete it and return the raptor to the long gun.

So far I only have the one ASC mag. It didn't play nicely with the Spinta bolt as there is a little ledge in the bolt channel that interferes with the feed lip. I spent some time with 60 grit and 320 grit wet sanding to remove material from the lip until it didn't rub anymore. Works 100% now. Will replace with PSA metal forms next time they run a killer deal like this last Black Friday.

The ASC mags were also a tight fit in the aero upper. I pressed the feed lips together a few thousandths more and wet sanded the inside of the upper slightly, no interference anymore.

Lastly the BCP blem lower is a little rough in places. Rear dentent is held by a set screw so I had to trim the spring to length. A few visible machining marks as well as details around the buffer tube that aren't mirrored to other side. Cosmetically those are small and not a big deal. Was a really tight fit with the Aero upper and the takedown pins were super tight. I hit all takedown pin holes with oiled 320 grit to wet sand them a little and now it all fits super tight with no rattle.

Looks good. I'm gathering parts for a similar sized glock build.  5.5" Androcorp barrel, slim flash can, and a 7" Matrix foxtrot hand guard.

Thanks, I appreciate it. You will like your build, the 5.5" barrel with flash can under the 7" guard is perfect in the hand. This is by far my favorite gun to shoot now. Cant wait to get it outside and ring some steel with it.

I had a Colt factory stock, but my dealer "needed" it more than I did, and the only place I can find a copy is MA Parts and can't seem to register to order one.

Who'd have thought the old outdated stocks would be such trouble to get!

Yeah they are a pain to find. Usually $100 these days if you can find one. I built that gun from a LE surplus parts kit so it came with the stock.

The MA ones do seem nice - a buddy of mine has a couple.

As to the old colt stocks - I recall a thread from GD about the old fiberlites where someone said that they used to take them off and throw them in the trash . They are my favorite stocks aside from the sopmods.

Yeah, years ago when I worked at a shop people would routinely toss them for the newest & bestest. They are nice and light though and I just wanted one for my 6720, then one for my 9mm, then I'm thinking maybe a C7A2 copy would be neat...

But nope, still can't make an account at MAParts.com, I guess I could try placing an order by phone, but bleh.

Last weekend I added one of the most fun upgrades possible to the little AR9, a Franklin Armory Binary trigger. Ordered the BFS Gen 3 and got it within a week, installed no problem and passed function check.

After 4 days I was finally able to get out to a range and put 200 rounds of crap winchester white box through it. The trigger is insane, way too much fun. It works, and it works VERY well. It is very natural motion to run it fast. It actually wants to run fast on it's own with almost no effort. I did overrun the bolt a few times, but when I made an effort to consciously slow down and deliberately pull to a rhythm it would just empty the mag without a hiccup. I couldn't recommend this enough! I had a few people at the range asking about it and let a few rip off some bursts. Everyone was smiling as soon as they tried it.

Two-stamp, Glock pattern AR9...

Decided in 2015 to build a dedicated 9mm AR.
Began internet-shopping / buying started in November 2015.
Applied for stamps December 2015. SBR was approved in ~5 months, can approved in ~9 months.
Barrel took about 7 months, as he was out of stock. Didn't really matter due to stamp processing.
I really liked how the DD VFG grip was styled to match a standard AR grip. However I had to dremel the DD to make it fit onto the rail. @ $9.49 its no big deal, but understand now why these VFGs are no longer produced.
Parts cost ~$3,200. Total cost, including direct and indirect (ie, gun trust) costs, $3,908.24.
Overall length is 27". Have not had a chance to fire this yet.
Including a pic of the google sheet I used to track parts. If its not clear I can post the part list separately.
