I have about 7000 rounds. Is that decent?
4 Zastava ZPAP M70s 50 Bulgarian mags. |

I have too much.
|

Don't you tell me about galaxies! I walk them in the timeline.

[#5]
7k is decent I would think.
But it also depends on how often you shoot them and if you reload any brass stuff for practice. If I just shot AKs I could streatch 7 k two years I think so long as I don't bumpfire drums. RTG also, has the 20 pack east german mags 30 or 40 rounders 99+ tax & shipping. Warning though I have two AKs they don't fit. |

I'm heavily invested in 5.45, so I need a lot more 7.62x39. I have maybe 2k? 7 to 10k is a good start for any caliber IMO.

[#7]
How much can you carry and still run?
|

|
[#8]
How much can you shoot in a 5 to 10 minute engagement (assuming we've switched focus the SHTF).

I am at a point that I am comfortable in the amount of ammo I have in each caliber I mainly shoot, but I continue to buy it anyway.
I am trying to resist new gun purchases going forward, and focusing on ammo/accessories. 5.56, 7.62x39, 308, 9mm, 22lr, and 300blk. I try and buy a 1000 rnds of one of these calibers a month. Not every caliber, I choose 1 or 2. I have other calibers as well, but not in the bulk numbers that I have the main calibers listed. I have also started buying the suppressors for each caliber as well. So far I have 22lr and 30 cal and I want to fill in the gap. I have yet to get into the QD mounted and still do direct thread. I need to learn more about the subject before I make those purchases. For me I guess you could ask how low would you be comfortable going with ammo on hand before you stopped shooting. I think that number would be around 3k rounds |

IDK , maybe 5 or 6k ? Down to two AK types and a handful of SKS's.

I think with ammo it should be how much can you keep on hand instead of how much should you keep on hand.

I have some ammo. No idea how much.
7000 rounds would have been ~4 months of ammo when I was competing with the AK. |

Haven't shot any of my aks in quite a while. Have around 14k. Mostly wolf military classic and maybe 3 or4 k of golden tiger

My AR15 is my SHTF gun. So, I shoot my AKs for fun. I’m 62 now, I think 7k rounds should last me until it’s time to go to heaven.
Even though I like my ARs better, those Zastava M70s were a great purchase. I can see why people go all in on the AKs. |
|
|
[#18]
8k, all bought at under 30cpr. Had 10k but sold 2000 a few months ago to a friend, used the funds for another can .
Only shoot my SAR1 once a year so at my age, I'm set for life. |

It's a heathen caliber, but still, I decided to stock up in 2013 / 2014 before Sandy Hook. Randomly I had decided to buy lots of calibers in bulk even if I didn't shoot them often, and went ahead with a bunch of 7.62x39
These days I probably have 10-15k mostly because I don't want to deal with ammo shortages or price hikes due to whatever current events are happening. Same for 22 and 9mm, even though I don't shoot those nearly as often as 5.45 As for 5.56...that's classified, but I will admit I could probably support my small community out here in the sticks, if I had to |

The new PSA 762x39 is very decent ammo. It's a much better option than the old corrosive surplus crap that is still somehow floating around out there.
I think they are using Hornady bullets. |

Dumped the 7.62x39 AR quite a while ago. I have a stockpile for a Ruger American, maybe 700 rounds? It's my most common hog gun.

Just one AK now. Keep it mainly as a novelty. I'm old. And the only gun I shoot A LOT is my competition AR-15. My two cans of AK ammo will probably last me the rest of my life. Attached File Attached File |

I just wish I would have gotten more 22LR and 9mm years ago (I now shoot those the most since I got into suppressors), but I do have a healthy amount. |

In 2004 at gun shows I could buy 7.62x39 by the case 25 bucks per 1000 rounds Sapson brand. Decent ammo considering it's price back then. I wish I knew then what I know now.

I have probably about 2.5k rounds and one ZPAP that I rarely shoot. Mostly brass cased but I think I picked up some that was advertised as non-corrosive but was a bit suspect. I should probably check on the barrel since it hasn't been shot in about 2 years, or cleaned in the interim.

Got my first batch of primers at Graf's 2010 ish.
Second batch at Dags ammo, 2012 ish. Both times I bought Tula KV-24N 7.62x39, name on the box. Tula makes it easy to get the right primer size. At that time they had the same size with a thicker cup for 308/7.62x54R. I should have got a box, but didn't.
