I have about 7000 rounds.  Is that decent?

4 Zastava ZPAP M70s

50 Bulgarian mags.

I have about half that in the old ass Russian, stackable wood crates.... I keep that, 3 AKs Maadis and about 100 mags, most in those bags they came in, kinda coated with Cosmoline.

Since I got bored with AKs, those(ammp and mags) are put up as part of my serious end of the civilization Boog preps....

7k sounds pretty squared away to me.

7k is decent I would think.

But it also depends on how often you shoot them and if you reload any brass stuff for practice.

If I just shot AKs I could streatch 7 k two years I think so long as I don't bumpfire drums.

RTG also, has the 20 pack  east german mags 30 or 40 rounders 99+ tax & shipping.

Warning though I have two AKs they don't fit.

I'm heavily invested in 5.45, so I need a lot more 7.62x39. I have maybe 2k? 7 to 10k is a good start for any caliber IMO.

How much can you carry and still run?

How much can you shoot in a 5 to 10 minute engagement (assuming we've switched focus the SHTF).

I am at a point that I am comfortable in the amount of ammo I have in each caliber I mainly shoot, but I continue to buy it anyway.

I am trying to resist new gun purchases going forward, and focusing on ammo/accessories.

5.56, 7.62x39, 308, 9mm, 22lr, and 300blk.  I try and buy a 1000 rnds of one of these calibers a month.  Not every caliber, I choose 1 or 2.

I have other calibers as well, but not in the bulk numbers that I have the main calibers listed.

I have also started buying the suppressors for each caliber as well.   So far I have 22lr and 30 cal and I want to fill in the gap.  I have yet to get into the QD mounted and still do direct thread.  I need to learn more about the subject before I make those purchases.

For me I guess you could ask how low would you be comfortable going with ammo on hand before you stopped shooting.  I think that number would be around 3k rounds

This.

I have 5k of golden tiger and 30-35 mags for 2 AKs.

Miss the $150-180/ case days.

Last time I looked wolf was over $600/ case.

IDK , maybe 5 or 6k ? Down to two AK types and a handful of SKS's.

I think with ammo it should be how much can you keep on hand instead of how much should you keep on hand.

I have some ammo. No idea how much.

7000 rounds would have been ~4 months of ammo when I was competing with the AK.

Haven't shot any of my aks in quite a while. Have around 14k. Mostly wolf military classic and maybe 3 or4 k of golden tiger

My AR15 is my SHTF gun.  So, I shoot my AKs for fun.  I’m 62 now, I think 7k rounds should last me until it’s time to go to heaven.

Even though I like my ARs better, those Zastava M70s were a great purchase.  I can see why people go all in on the AKs.

8k, all bought at under 30cpr. Had 10k but sold 2000 a few months ago to a friend, used the funds for another can .

Only shoot my SAR1 once a year so at my age, I'm set for life.

It's a heathen caliber, but still, I decided to stock up in 2013 / 2014 before Sandy Hook. Randomly I had decided to buy lots of calibers in bulk even if I didn't shoot them often, and went ahead with a bunch of 7.62x39

These days I probably have 10-15k mostly because I don't want to deal with ammo shortages or price hikes due to whatever current events are happening. Same for 22 and 9mm, even though I don't shoot those nearly as often as 5.45

As for 5.56...that's classified, but I will admit I could probably support my small community out here in the sticks, if I had to

My worst-case-scenario rule of thumb is this: Assume that everyone anywhere near you has turned into a zombie, have enough x39 to have triple-tap mercy on everyone within a 5 mile radius at minimum.

I'm good for 15 miles.

The new PSA 762x39 is very decent ammo.  It's a much better option than the old corrosive surplus crap that is still somehow floating around out there.

I think they are using Hornady bullets.

If that's true i'll never buy a single round of that ammo ever.

People on this very site, busted them back in 2012 donating to Pedocrat anti-gun candidates.

C'mon PSA, you can do better.

Dumped the 7.62x39 AR quite a while ago.  I have a stockpile for a Ruger American, maybe 700 rounds?  It's my most common hog gun.

I have enough.  I bought back in the good days of Golden Tiger from SGammo.  Who ever thought steel 7.62 would cost as much or more than brass 5.56.  Crazy.

I have a couple cans.

Just one AK now. Keep it mainly as a novelty.

I'm old. And the only gun I shoot A LOT is my competition AR-15.

My two cans of AK ammo will probably last me the rest of my life.

This has been me for the last few decades. I saw it in the tea leaves a long time ago. Buy low, stack high.

I'm probably set for all rifle calibers (10k+ of 7.62x39, 7.62x51, and 5.56, plus good size stacks for my C&Rs: 8mm, 7.5 Swiss, 7.62x54R, 303 Brit, 30-06 and 30 carbine). I just wish I would have gotten more 22LR and 9mm years ago (I now shoot those the most since I got into suppressors), but I do have a healthy amount.

I haven't had a plan since I topped out on 22vat about 30k. Was buying a  bulk pack every visit to wally world after a scare 15 years ago.

But now I have a plan. Thanks, Doorkicker, from me and my kids..

Just a couple of boxes of my handloaded ammo.

Home cast powder coated 155 gr bullets loaded into Berdan primed steel cases I picked up at the range.

Yes they function 100% in AK's, and since the bullets are powder coated, there is no leading of the barrel.

Cost about $.08 a round.

In 2004 at gun shows I could buy 7.62x39 by the case 25 bucks per 1000 rounds Sapson brand. Decent ammo considering  it's price back then. I wish I knew then what I know now.

Let’s just say I could have used 7.62x39 ammo for my avatar, but the wood 5.45 crates looked better….

Still kicking myself for not buying berdan primers when some could still be found, especially as I have brass cased Yugo M67 ammo that could be reloaded.

Maybe the PSA steel cased/boxer primed will be the ticket though going forward…

I have probably about 2.5k rounds and one ZPAP that I rarely shoot. Mostly brass cased but I think I picked up some that was advertised as non-corrosive but was a bit suspect. I should probably check on the barrel since it hasn't been shot in about 2 years, or cleaned in the interim.

Found out the "old wife's tale" was untrue, steel dies load steel cases fine. Cases are soft steel, dies are hardened steel.

I bought 1 k Berdan primers to start, then when I wanted more, they were unavailable.

Waited 2-3 years and when they became available again, bought a life time supply.

Found a RCBS Berdan decapper at the funshow for $2, guy didn't know what it was. Score..

Fed Arms was one of the main places that seemed to get berdan primers in, I just could not figure out exactly which ones to order, half the time various sizes were not available.  Now they have apparently imploded, lawsuits, theft allegations, I don’t know what happened but they are basically out of business it seems.

Probably have pallets of berdan primers stuck in some warehouse too that only one person knows about…
