so you're saying it is just basically wedged between the grip and receiver?  Just the pressure is holding it in there?

Correct

Hmmm ... I'm not confident that this setup would hold very well.  Especially if you let go of the primary and transition to a secondary.

I think I'll try to find something else.

Yeah, I'm not down with that.  I thought maybe if one of those holes would line up with the PG bolt I could see it.  Think I'll stick with my para-cord.  Hey, if people are willing to fall from the sky on this string, I think it is strong enough to hold my gun.  But, a piece of metal wedged between plastic and metal doesn't seem like enough, to me.

Wow!  I have to say I am astounded. That PG bolt must be really tightened down.  My hat off to you sir.

And I must say that para-cord is doing a nice job, too

If you're paranoid, I'm sure drilling out the metal of that D-ring thing to accomodate the grip bolt should be pretty easy, even with a Dremel/Hand tools.

I'm thinking that even when I SBR mine I want the single-point sling like that anyway.

AJ,
I asked if the holes would line up with the bolt or if it could be drilled and never got a response, so I didn't know if it was long enough to do that.

The holes don't line up with the grip screw.  I had to notch about 3/8" into the end of the bracket to be able to slide it far enough under the receiver to where I liked the reveal of the Dee ring.  I suppose if you wanted it stronger you could use the holes to rivet it to the receiver or screw it to the grip, but it's a long bracket with lots clamping surface area there.  Also before I painted it I used a block of wood and a hammer to crimp the bracket to the Dee ring a bit tighter so it wouldn't rattle.

I also imagine it couldn't be all that hard to just get a D-ring and fab your own out of some thin sheet stock.

I just realized I can do what Mr. Moneyman did on page 1 of this thread. I have TONS of webbing and fastex buckles laying around. Whenever we toss any gear that has them on there, baby seats, backpacks etc. I keep it all in a bucket.

Mine arrived quickly. It was mummified inside a section of bubble mailer and taped, then tossed into an envelope.  I must say that this thing is hell for stout.  The fit/finish isn't bad.  Couple of paint boogers on the inside corners.  No sharp edges.  Good fit.  Only complaint is that it torques a tiny bit when I add alot of tension to the sling but average person would never notice.  I happy with it.  Sorry I didn't think to take pics before I installed it.

Wow.  I'm going to have to take back what I said.

Is it really just pinched between the grip and the receiver?  If not, did you put it thru the pistol grip screw or bend the end of the tab to ride against the inside-rear of the pistol grip?!

I'm definitely curious.

I saw where someone used nylon strapping, like from a sling which had a quick release buckle right behind the grip.  Only got a quick look, but looks like he did something similar to the para-cord thing you did.  I hope he sees this and posts his pics.  Don't have one, yet, but working on it.

That'll be me.....

I basically did the same thing as the OP.  I took a 1" nylon strap, melted a hole the same diameter as the pistol grip screw. I then took off the grip and used the pistol grip bolt/screw as an anchor point for my sling strap.  One thing I like about using this strap method is that I don't have to cut (notch) out the pistol grip.  Just tighten the grip down and the finish product will be flush w/ the bottom of the receiver.

At the end of the strap I put on a plastic buckle.  Attached to the buckle I made a simple sling loop.  Works surprisingly well too.

The cost of materials was approx. $5.  Nothing too fancy bout it.  Let me know if you guys want more details.

Just FYI, I did a "Mr. Moneyman"-sling just yesterday. Took me about 10 minutes worth of work.

Like I mentioned above, I had lots of nylon webbing and Fastex-style buckles laying in a pile that I'd saved from old bags, kid seats etc. I formed a 2" long loop through the female end of a Fastex buckle, lined up a hole where the T-bolt for the pistol grip would emerge from the receiver, and then widened/melted the hole with a Bic lighter.

Screwed the pistol grip back on tightly, and it was all done.

Cost of materials was $0.

Holy Crap, look what I stumbled onto.  I found this while looking through a Rock River AR catalog.  I see where guys have drilled and tapped sling swivels into the rear of their trunion, so why wouldn't this work?  Then you could attached just about whatever kind of sling mount you wanted.

It is about the 5th pic down from the top.

Okay. So how does that work there? Picture doesn't tell me a thing.

Well, I'm sure it machined in the AR pistol.  I just thought you could attach a rail to the back of the Draco and then attach almost any type of sling ring back there.

I know it looks like crap but it works. Made it out of an old tile saw blade, I kinda wanna redo it, because I'm not too happy with my workmanship but, best of all, it was free.  http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab190/yellowlabsrule23/SNC12080.jpg
